A colleague of mine has a unique problem manifesting itself in Autocad 11. He has one image (an aerial jpg), on top of which he's placing a second image (jpg). Both are in model space. He then adjusts the second image to have some transparency, which shows up correctly on the screen, but when plotting, the image on top is completely opaque.

He is able to do what I describe above with other jpg images, but it's just this one particular jpg that always plots opaque.

Can jpg's have different properties to cause this? BTW, we tried converting the jpg to a png and overlaying the base image. Same thing occurs.

    Any suggestions?

I'm by no means expert at the field but maybe try to change the colour model of the image. See what those that work have (RGB / CYMK) and check if this naughty one has something different.

You have to check "Plot Transparency" on the plot window, if you can´t see this option you have to click the small circle with a arrow in the lower right corner.

Thanks for your response both of you. I'll check to see if one is RGB.

I inserted a new image as RGB and one as CMYK. Both display transparency. The transparency box is checked in the plot window.

Something about this one image that displays transparency, but doesn't plot that way.

Maybe just one of those inexplicable quirks of autocad?

you might try using a PNG instead of a JPG.

@Ben: how about simply creating a new image, copying the old one as a layer on top and saving the new image as a completely different thing. I know this is still trying to stab in the dark but I thought if it works with some mysteriously screwed skp models (copying content into a new file), it may also work for an image file.

The image file came from scanning a document, then inserting it into autocad, not from a skp file. It's absolutely strange because we've done this before without a problem.

                  Thanks guys. Ben

No, the skp example was just an analogy. I mean to open the image in an image editor and start a new image in the editor, too. Then select the old image and paste it into the new one and try that new.

Gaieus, thanks for the suggestion. We "solved" it by starting a brand new drawing and inserting the images there. It plotted with transparency. What we didn't solve is why the problem with the first drawing? Corrupted perhaps? A mystery.

We also noticed in our first drawing that any text placed in paperspace, on top of the viewport, vanished in the plot preview and the plot. So we had 2 issues going on at the same time. It also wasn't a matter of plotting from paperspace. The subject image did also not plot transparent from model space.

Anyway we got the results wanted but still wish we could determine what was going on.

                      Thanks everyone.
