    This is an offshoot from the work I did on the Glass brick/block thread. It's based on Harri Koskinen's Block Lamp and rendered with Thea render.

    Here's some views of the SU model:

        That's cool.

        Initially I thought it was a light inside a hollow glass block with water inside, I see it's two solid glass blocks with an indentation for light bulb. πŸ‘

              Thanks guys πŸ‘

              Glad you like the model and render. It was equally fun and frustrating to work on. I thought I could just put it together quickly with a proxy and Artisan but the bevel I wanted between the recessed bulb shape and the block just wasn't happening. In the end I had to model the block and bulb recess separately and combine them together.

              Not an ideal solution and a bit of a bodge job really 😳. I suppose the main thing is that it works for the end result, but with a bit more experience I'd like to come back to this and find a way of producing a nicer mesh.

              @ninopiamonte

              Given the time invested in the project and the fact that I'm not 100% happy with the modelling I don't have any plans to share the model. Sorry.

              I would however be happy to talk you through the modelling process if you are interested in having a go yourself.

                  It's been on my radar for a while but I'd completely forgotten about it until Pete started the glass block challenge. I've fallen in love with it all over again and it's now on my 'must have' list.

                  It's not this one in the 3D Warehouse is it?

                    Nope. Did never published it and skippy is probably lost in void. Some Kerkythea test render from 2007:

                      I had a feeling it wasn't your model.

                      It's a pity you've lost it as I would have liked to have seen your approach to the modelling. Interesting render by the way - it shows quite a lot of potential for using the lamp in proper scenes.

                        Needed to look trough backups... here is the wire-frame. Quite coarse and not that accurate to original. But that five years ago... a blast from the past. No Artisan πŸ˜‰

                          Thanks for taking the time to dig out the old model. Looks pretty good considering you didn't use Artisan or SDS and it makes me wonder if I needed to bother with the bevel around the bulb-shaped recess.

                            If I where modelling this, I'd add the bevel. Naturally also a treatment with artisan. Also topology was a mess. Here is some good reference photos, if you still need http://tiinaliisak.wordpress.com/2011/03/30/jasper-johns-light-bulb-vs-harri-koskinen-block-lamp/
