E-Carver!
-
Hi Guys,
Its been a while since I posted anything on cars! These days I have absolutely no interest in combustion driven carriages! They really are old hat.
Its the new breed of E-cars that is catching my attention and one in particular, the Lynx E-Carver. This electric tilting three wheeler by Lynx Cars is based on the Carver.
I think Lynx could be on the right track as they have hinted at a reasonable(ish) price and they are getting around the battery limitations with what they are calling a 'Jet Pack Range Extender'.
The only problem I would see is that the missus, if I could get her into one for a week end trip, would need a suitcase for the shoes! I could fit my needs into a plastic bag and stick it under the seat!
So, I think what is need is some kind of a motorbike trailer and there are some nice ones available but connecting them to the E-Carver would be tricky. The one I like, the Tow-Tow would suit Jock also if he wanted to tag along

Would the Missus be offended if you asked her to ride with the dog? Maybe not such a good idea as I think about the consequences.

Didn't one or more of the previous iterations of the owners manufacturing the "Carver" car go bankrupt? Is this even the same car? These sure look like a lot of fun, hope it sticks around!

Well, I think a lot of people may well opt to sit in a trailer as the passenger has to sit with their legs straddling the driver seat when under way AND they have to leave their left leg hanging out of the Carver until the driver is seated, then they can bring in their left leg and the door can be closed. I had both the experience of being a passenger and driver some years ago

Yep! you are right. The Dutch Carver company went belly up a few years ago. A pity really as its a fantastic piece of engineering and great fun. I imagine the main problem was that the cost, due to the Carver being hand-built, was too high.
It looks like Lynx will be getting a lot done in China so I imagine cost will drop but I hope that's all that drops!

Mike, an interesting comment on business success vs engineering excellence. In the US the Solyndra thing is being characterized by the right as both a scandal and an engineering failure. From what I have read the engineering was quite advanced and far from being a scandal the failure was more like a lack of a viable business model.

Not familiar with Solyndra but will check out.
I think quality products which are often expensive should be financed over a longer than normal period. All these products would need incorporated, is the possibility to upgrade some parts that may become obsolete.
Most cars these days are financed over 3 to 4 years. That's okay for cars that fall apart but again most cars these days are capable of lasting for 10 years if maintained properly. I remember the rust buckets of 40 years ago. Fiats and some Japanese cars would rust as you watched whereas Mercs and the like were lasters.
Mmmmm, a bit like Macs and Dells ..... I probably will regret saying that but what the heck
