Image Shack now promoting Poker Parties
-
It does only seem to happen with the thumbnails and is initiated by clicking on these to resize them and not linked to full images such as Petes or others - just the thumbnails ones - which is some good news. Also when hovering over re-size image it says "Click to visit ImageShack for image hosting", when I click nothing happens but makes the enlarged existing image fit my window width?
Out of curiosity I tried another machine with identical software FF3.03 and Norton and set for no popups and guess what - I'm having the same experience as Pete, Gaieus and Bruceās home machine, no popup block warning and no popups appear as well as no banners. Even more curious hovering over re-size image it says "Click to visit ImageShack for image hosting", when I click nothing happens. I turned off popup block and tried again but with same result no pop ups and no warnings???
However more good news for those wanting to view the thumbnail images in peace I found a temp work around by deselecting JavaScript in FF3.03 Tools - Options - no more pop ups and no more banners adverts, but it does stop you putting in similes and may effect the viewing and operation of other sites you visit, but you can always turn it back on and reload the page. Turning off JavaScript does however let you get to the ImageShack image hosting page???

Yesterday I got a dating popup that popped an "are you sure you don't want to met your dream-date" loop that wouldn't end...had to use task manager to end the iexplore task.
-
Tom,
That's a sign ... time to meet your dream date, forget about politics and get laid.
-
Pete, that'll have to wait...I'm still pretty sore from the politics.

I am still getting my daily dose of Party Poker....
Coen....Have you made a decision on this as I thought I would add a pop-up to my image server....nothing wrong with a little spam I guess and the rest of us should be able to take advantage of this advertising opp....or is this just exclusivly for Image Shack.....are they paying us for this??
I don't know Bruce if they are paying YOU for this but they definitely not paying US!
And please, don't again rename the topic as "SCF... is promoting..." We are not and I simply don't understand this ranting of yours with US who have never done anything like this.
-
Bruce, i think you might be being a little hasty.
If SCF was to block imageshack a huge swathe of the gallery (and other parts of the site) would become useless.
You must also remeber that this issue is only occuring for a portion of people, so any decision is going to have to be a balance.
-
I just tested it on the first image in this thread http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=13573
and definitely get a poker pop up. So it appears to be a factor of linked images.
Having closed the pop up, I don't get any more in a particular session. -
SCF isnt meant to be a hosting site for your personal work, it is a forum where people discuss sketchup. I also believe that you havent gotten the measure of the peopel running the SCF.
-
Well it isnt. SCF has a gallery where you can display your work for discussion, but it isnt meant to be somewhere were you should direct people to view your work, thats just not what its for.

On a related note, it might be soemthign to with this:

The Indigo site is back online.
The Indigo site was compromised a couple of weeks ago, probably through a Wordpress vunerability.
The purpose of the hack was apparently to insert links to poker sites into some pages. None of the files available for download seem to have been touched.
Since then, it's been offline while I reinstalled and updated the site software (Joomla, PhpBB etc..)
Some functions such as the artwork gallery and material database are still disabled, but will be reenabled soon.
Thanks for your patience,
Nick Chapman

Bruce, i dont take any offence at you reporting the issue and being rightly annoyed by it.
What i do find very annoying is you accusing the admin team of doing it on purpose.
-
Well, Bruce, whatever your intentions are/were, with your words you have been accusing us for spreading spam. We cannot help if an external site uses spam and you should be grown up enough to deal with in on one hand and to make the difference who is spamming.
So much about it and I am done with this issue - should you be blocking SFC (or the domain) or not.
