    Hi PD,

The new MacBookPro with the (quote)'NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT delivers exceptional graphics processing power. For the ultimate creative canvas, you can even configure the 17-inch model with a 1920-by-1200 resolution display.'

I'm currently using a MacBookPro 17" (Intel) with the ATI GC. While its fine with the 1680x1050 Res I do think the screen could easily handle 1920x1600. This resolution would be an added bonus to graphics work. Also I imagine Apple must think that the NVidia is the faster / better card if they are now using them ?

The new machine also takes 4 Gigs of RAM. It's my understanding that this along with the CPU help to speed up SketchUp. I have also thought about trying one of the Mac programs that allow programs to be run solely in RAM, supposedly much faster results!, I could be wrong about this !

    Mike

me neither. please elaborate on this, mike.

planner dude, i have just bought a macbook pro (specs attached) like the one you describe. as soon as it arrives i will be able to tell you how well it runs.

      regards.

just to illustrate the topic of graphic cards. in march i bought a brand-new iMac intel 20". all specs are the best but i did not realize i could order a GC with 256 mb (whereas the standard one has 128). only when i was researching to buy the notebook i discovered that possibility but it was already too late as you cannot upgrade much more than RAM and HD in an iMac. it took me a week to recover from feeling stupid but i learned a good lesson from that.

        good luck on your purchase.

although it could have had 256 it actually has 128. it has run well so far. even though i did not make it go through any severe test in my work i took the crowd test refered to in this thread. have a look at it and you will get an idea.

          regards.
