IDK...
The USA has the TENETS of the right to Freedom of Speech, but the right has to be defended, defined, and (apparently) threatened in each generation. This is no different than before. Just as one may set forth an enlightened concept of freedom and still own slaves, Freedom of Speech is imperfect in the beginning and always evolving. Once again, the good old days were not so good, and I don't see a change here.
That said (and while I am sympathetic--don't get me wrong), we don't really have a right to obstruct commerce or occupy public spaces indefinitely. This is where "civil disobedience" comes into play and this is also a long-standing tradition (see Boston Tea Party, Henry David Thoreau, Martin Luther King). By definition CD isn't part of the rule of law, but it has a purpose in any society that HAS the rule of law and civil rights, AND half a conscience. But those who engage in it are usually resigned to the consequences, which can be deadly.
But you're right about this creating a chance for greater sympathy and support--and the point of the confrontation is to stir the hornets' nest in the first place. So we have the official backlash to something like the Berkeley Free Speech Movement fueling the following Peace movement and (white) sympathies for the Civil Rights movement in the US, all from a few troublemakers. Here's to the troublemakers!

.... well sometimes its good to make trouble! I see the same thing happening in London, although the powers that be seem to be doing it a little more politely, pinning eviction notices to the tents

I found this 1934 cartoon. Not much has changed.

Just listened to the 'We are the many - Makana' YT vid (above). Who is that guy? What a voice! They say '... the power of words!' but this is definitely a case of the 'power of song!'
It's not going away for the '1%'

Well said!.....

Yes, well said by that gentleman.
I've been thinking about something lately, the figure '1%' is being used to indicate the 'Powers that Be'/ Money Power Brokers but I very much doubt these power brokers are anything near 1% of populations. If you think about it for a minute, how many people do you know? It probably runs into many hundreds!
Unless one is living in pretty bad circumstances, accordingly we should know or at least be aware of 2 to 3 of the so called '1%!
This is clearly not the case. I think the actual number of power brokers is much, much less than 1%! More like one in a hundred thousand or more ..... would need to work that one out! Done, for a hundred thousand its .00001%.
What's my point? Its simply that even the 1% figure probably has been put in there by the hidden power brokers in order that they would appear to be a larger force than they actually are.
