Shatter Effect

So i have a somewhat weird question. Is there a way in which you would be able to cut up a 3d object into several smaller shattered peices but they could each be a group. I am trying to do a shatter effect using sketchyphysics but i can't find anything that could help me create what im looking for.

I wondered this a few years back when SU got 3d Text, if it can do fonts why not shapes, imagine a shatter or asteroid (like in the 70's game asteroids)shape font.
