Working Visas in USA

So im going over to Amerika! soon and will hopefully pick up some work there to cover my flights and expenses.

However I only have a 'Visa Waiver' and you cant work on that to my knowledge?

Im not sure what to apply for from the US embassy here in London, does anybody know what I should do and what criteria I must meet to be eligible for one?

Some more info to help ya'll:

Im only going for two-three weeks
Have proof and documentation of full time job and salary
Have proof and documentation of pre-organised work in the US (Lecturing/Workshops at the University of Michigan and Kansas)
Will have a pre paid for return ticket

If anybody has any ideas let me know, im sure a lot of you have travelled to the US or abroad for short working/business trips, it would be most helpful.

I think you're going to be left with Company Sponsorship as your only option unless you're in fear of being raped or killed at home.

I believe the J-1 Visa will also be your best bet for short term work. 18 months I believe.

that must be written by a Brit... they're the only one's who use "scheme" as a good word or at least not negative. in America it means something like a con job or a underhanded trick.

hadn't heard about the ESTA... nice catch. and don't forget when you get to America prepare to be fondled.

I'd agree...the J1 is probably your best bet. And yes, you absolutely need the ESTA...and don't forget to sign out again when you leave...or they won't le you back in again.

Thanks all, yeah I did the ESTA last time I went.
I think sponsorship would be available, im talking to the University of Michigan on wednesday hopefully will be able to sort something out then!
