Objects not in motion....

ok i'm a complete noob at sp and physics in general, but not at sketchup. so here's my question i created a series of gears and set one as the motor. on my first model the motor moves, but when engaged with the gears is does nothing (actually it stutters for a while like its stuck). i have them set to rotate correctly based on the first (motor) rotation. I also checked to make sure no other elements were "joined" besides the ones i needed. Still no go.
i then tried to create a new model using a gear generator program online (thinking) maybe my gears weren't meshing properly. In this model i could not even get the motor to rotate.
im dealing with small dimensions (ig 1/2" diameter, 1" diameter, etc...) can anyone shed some light on this for me what i may be doing wrong..

If you you could upload a file with what you have so far it would be lot easier for us to pinpoint the problem.
Offhand it may be the small dimensions you are working with. Try building a similar model with everything scaled up by a factor of ten and see if that helps. Do your objects seem to be dominated by the size of the joints?
