KML/GE question
-
Just a little more info. This is so strange.
I was trying to understand this, so I checked all my other collections, which all appeared in 'view in google earth fine, and produced a correct placemarks.kml file.
-
I deleted the original collection that was causing problems, and started a new one, adding all the models again. I kept checking back reguarly, and the placemarks.kml was absolutey fine. UNTIL I added the Agar and South Fork models (these were the only 2 showing in my original problem). I now only get these two models shown in the placemarks.kml file.
-
I deleted the Agar and South Fork models from the collection, and launched the placemarks.kml file. Now, despite their being 28 other models in the collection I get a singular 'No data' placemark with no models shown.
Do you know of how I can contact google about this? Is there a mail address or an official forum? Would really like to get to the bottom of it.

It's not really a question as ou cannt now the answer but collections containing the models do not seem to depend on the time of submissions (or at least there MUST be some serious bugs in the system). See here:
http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=290430#p290430There, in that collection, I would have just one model but that model should be there. Lee has a bunch of models but only two shows up (but they do show up at least).
I know Lee is taking the exam now so I do not want to go ahead and ask him to play with his submissions settings but after the evaluation, I would like to get back to him and ask him to make some experiments with me as I seem to have found some interesting problems as well.
Lee: as I saw that you are to "solve" your exam differently, leave the report for now and get the evaluation. Afterwards we are going to experiment and collect all necessary data to submit a proper bug report.
I also need to concentrate on my application submissions and during the course of doing it, I'll be able to collect more related bugs.

It's interesting that it seems to work for this collection:

I am trying to find a pattern so that I can make a proper bug report. When I do not know what's going on, I can just guess.

Sounds like a plan.

This is from a wee way back in the conversation but I just stumbled across it:

Hey Lee,
If your models are in a collection, it will create it's own KML file called Placemarks. Click on View in Google Earth off the collection and save the file to your desktop. Double clicking on that file will open it up in Google Earth.
Once it does, you can right click on it in Google Earth and save it as a KMZ file with what ever name you want.
Then you can import that KMZ file into My Maps, and the end result is something like this.
Thought your maps visualization was really nice jax, We have a little something here to play with where you could represent this sort of thing as well: http://estate3d.com/static/show_and_tell#
Its a bit buggy right now and needs work but you get the idea.
-
Gai,
I'm now certified, so can play around with my collection.
Do you want to address the bug now, or wait until the new year?
-
Hi Lee and congrats!
To tell the truth, I have not had enough time to play around and identify why some models are missing from a collection. I suspect however that older collections "suffer" from this. Maybe this feature was introduced later than some collections started and the Warehouse machine did not successfully add all the older models to a particular collection?
Dunno really.
-
No problems, Gai.
Do you know if there is an email address or a particular forum where I could contact google, to find a possible solution?
Merry Christmas!
-
Well, you have just become a member of another forum which is quite well monitored by some Googlers.
Maybe try there as well (I can add my own 2 cents, too).
