Joints not connecting on groups when part of components

Just a little SP annoyance: When trying to attach a gun to a plane whose wings are a component, the gun doesn't attach. Could an expert help? This problem is rather annoying, as i can't get the gun to stick.

try exploding the wing (or wings) and then making them into a group, not a component. that should work.
