Rotate at 90s while placing component
-
I'm hoping to find a way to rotate a component while placing it from the component browser. What would be great is a shortcut key that would allow the user to rotate about an axis at 90 degree intervals while moving the component into position.
The goal is to avoid the additional steps of 1.place, 2.change tool to move or rotate, 3.rotate the component, 4.move the component into position.
I'm imagining something like a ctrl+up or down arrow to rotate about red or green axis, and ctrl+left or right arrow to rotate about the blue axis. This would be helpful for building with modular components.
Anything like this in existence? Thanks!

I am not aware of such a feature. But wait awhile, maybe someone knows.
How about a move/ rotate/ scale gizmo like Blender has?
By the way, not that this addresses your question, but TIG has provided a Free Rotate tool that is very interesting.

I have a tool that rotates components randomly. Just select them and input a rotation range 0-360 degrees for example. You can also scale randomly:

I've also written repeat copy, which is useful for placing many copies of components quickly and it also has random rotation and scaling:

Thanks for the replies, guys.
While Free Rotate and Repeat Copy are great tools for quickly doing random rotations and placements, I'm looking for more of a building block tool.
For example, I have several different wall and post components in the component browser that fit together. I've set the insertion point at the point where the components should connect. But I often need to rotate the component I'm bringing in to connect to the assembly I'm building. The rotation would be on axis, nothing complicated. So, just hoping for a way to quickly rotate without changing tools.
Really, if there was a shortcut key for Rotate Clockwise, I would be set.

Found this plugin by daiku which allows a shortcut for rotating 90s around different axes:

Exactly what I was looking for. Just wish I could do it at the same time as placing a component, but that doesn't work. I'm going to ask in his thread.
