Google skype...free
-
Hey guys, check this out:
Competing with Skype...but only it's FREE.
-
Opps I think I just posted the same thing in another thread.
-
Beat me twice
But this is a cool service. -
Great minds think alike.
-
I have Skype and I thought it was free.
-
The online version is free, using a headset and all, this is like the Skype telephone service, using a smart-phone like a Droid and iPhone that has data capabilities you can call anyone that has a Gmail account free (at least that's what I think as I only glanced at article
)

Apparently, currently available only in the U.S. although Canadians can access it by having their gmail setting set to "English US", although we can't at the moment receive calls from the U.S. because we have a law in Canada that service providers have to allow access to 911 calls so the caller can be located, and google talk doesn't have this yet.
So being Canadian is like owning a mac (not everything is available to you). but then at the moment, being from anywhere else is like owning a Commodor 64. -
here is the google gmail blog about it.

Yeah, it has just popped to me as well. It offered a US call for .15 $ however. So it seems that US-to-US would be meant free, not anywhere-else-to-US (and the other prices seem to be somewhat the same as Skype)

I tried it yesterday (one of my friends called me from Gmail without having a Google Voice account), it definitely worked, but was really choppy - I could hear other people on the line. So it seems like its still in beta, which is often the case with new Google offerings
