Making Movies
-
Hi everyone! This is PinkSkink, Goldenfrog's sister.
I'm interested in making short movies, usualy sci-fi. However, I have been using a pretty lousy camera and I don't like the results. I'm thinking of purchasing a new camera, with a esolution of somewhere around 1000x700. I really don't want to spend more than $200, though. Do any of you have any recomendations as to what sort of camera gives good results and possibly has a microphone jack?
Alot of people have reccomended the Canon xl2, but that camera is almost $4000, and as such is far beyond my budget.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

The Canon ti2 is also a great option for high quality video (and pictures!). But it is in the $800 range, much higher than $200.
There are fairly cheap little handhelds out there (many under $100) that are very compact and record 720HD (that is about what you described by your given descired pixel dimensions). So I'd search for any camera that says it can shoot at full speed (24 - 29.97 fps) 720HD. 1080HD is even better, but I'm not sure how cheap they are yet. Probably not much more than a 720HD cam. EDIT: I see the Sony "Bloggy" shoots at 1080 and seems to be very popular right now. It goes for around $200.
Good luck!

Hi Chris,
Thanks so much for the information! The Sony Bloggie looks like a pretty good choice, except for the fact that it has no way to attatch an external microphone (according to the reviewers on Amazon.com). One of them said that the Kodak zi8 has a microphone jack--I was wondering if you knew anything about this camera?
Thank you,
PinkSkink
