The Ion Thrust Effect

To all the ship builders out there.

I've seen this sort of effect before, but it was either post processed, a texture or a very low poly model.
The problems with post pro is that it takes time, with texture is that it doesn't work in all render engines and with simple transparent geometry that it doesn't look very good in close ups.

Well...thanks to Pangeranberbajuputih form Deviant Art who posted this ship http://pangeranberbajuputih.deviantart.com/art/Normandy-Sr2-Final-Skp-File-169390418 we have a clever new model for the thrust effect which looks good in SU and in renderings(with a little fiddling) from all angles.
