Never used it before, but seriously considering trying it soon, I have seen some great renders in the gallery lately and some awesome animations to get me considering adding it as an additional render option.

I have also seen great flythroughs with nicely animated people and cars in it. It was a few years ago and looked really bad, even for 5 years ago standards. But I too have recently seen some of those renders in the gallery and I am not laughing at it nearly so much. It would be interesting to see some new walkthroughs with animation.

Ah, to hell with Artlantis. Didn't get the job! In fact, I walked out during the interview!

            Okay, I'll bite....

Tell us what happened, I love horror interview stories, they make my life seem less sucky.

              lol.

The interview was scheduled at 4 in the afternoon. Office looks like a shop that's mutated into something bigger. They let me wait 'til 16:15, though I can see the manager in his office, and he doesn't look particulary busy. They seated me at a table. On it: magazines. The kind that have only ads for diamants, cigars, and interviews with fancy business men. Tacky glossies for wannabe captains of industry. Looking around, I see that all employees are attractive young women. All of them.

The interview itself. Manager looks like an extra in 'GoodFellas'. Doesn't look at me, not a single time. Asks questions that show no interest in who I am, or what I can do. Most of those he would've known the answer to if he'd read my resumé. Answers uh-huh to everything I say. Explains to me what they do, then says they need enthusiastic people. Then adds: you're clearly not enthusiastic. End of interview. I think: f*ck you, stand up, and walk out of the building.

I am too old to be treated like a 23-year old would-be intern.

Well, first of all. Congrats on not getting the job 😄
Hopefully you'll find something a bit more interesting soon...

                To answer your first question:
Artlantis is easy and has a decent output [a little retouch with PS will go a long way]

lol. I'd rather not work for an enormous 'patser'. 😉 Hij had zelfs die typische ballenlook: gestreept hemd, achteruitgekamd haar.
That interview was truly one of the most bizarre I've ever had. My account of it hardly does it justice.

The app does indeed look interesting, although its output, in my opinion, isn't on par with that of Vray, Maxwell or Indigo. I feel compelled to give the demo a spin. Though I must add Thea's got precedence, as I've just gotten me a licence! Instancing brush, yum. 😄

Talking about rendering apps, the newest iteration of Podium V2 is quite interesting. Rendering is no longer taking place 'within' SketchUp, meaning the process can use more RAM, and ... according to Bigstick, one of the Podium guys, a 64-bit version is coming. Don't know when, but they're on it, which obviously is nice.

                    Hi Stinkie,
I am sorry to hear about that job interview.
Guess you acted on your gut feeling...and you're right.
Guys like that are not worth it to be working for.
Better step out soon than getting hooked in a job where you don't feel happy.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for other opportunities. You're talented so Karma will go your way.

                    Cheers mate!,

                    Chris

And the other circumstances of the interview/office/job are relevant why?

That I did. Really bad feeling about that place. Mind you, I did want that job!

                        Hm, valid point.

You got me wondering now... I know two guys in this industry who look like that but their offices don't look the way you described.

From the sound of it you should be glad it didn't work out. And hey, at least you can add a good story to your repertoire 😉

About Artlantis, I used it for a short while to see if I would be willing to spend money on it and the answer was no. I guess the 'swatches' approach to materialsettings is a nice feature, but in the end it doesn't really give me a real benefit in terms of speed and ends up working slightly limiting. I think one of the upsides of working with Artlantis is in an office environment where you work together on a single project cos it´s relatively easy to share materialsettings. Outputquality wasn´t amazing to me, but not rubbish either.

lol. It's not likely you know the guy, as I live in Belgium, not the Netherlands.

Oh well, water under the bridge. Shame about that job, though! Modeling, rendering, and it was only 15 minutes by bike!

I'll probably have to pick up my old profession again (copywriting and editing, that is). If I can get me a nice part-time gig, I'd be okay with that. ☀
