Plugin - or dynamic component function?

Hello -
I'd like to do a query on a component, which will return the azimuth angle (z rotation if North = 0 degrees).
I've tried using
=current(RotZ)
in a custom field as a dynamic component, but it's telling me the value is not found.
Any ideas?
