Planes or Volcano

Spotted some topics about how skies are now clean around EU and then this...

A shining example of how statistics can be deadly accurate yet completely misleading.
It is not the quantities, but the distribution. -
I'm confused how a 60% reduction can look like negative CO2. The black number - 60% less than 344,109 is still 137,643 tons emmited. Yet the graphic shows it as a lovely black defecit, much lower than the volcano. Though the volcano is still actually only about 10% of the reduced airplanes number. Am I just mis-reading the graph?
-
Chris:
You confused me with your confusion. -
Relative to if there was no eruption there is less CO2 being emitted (according to this graphic anyway), so im not really sure what the problem/point is?
-
Volcanoes are better for the environment? I think this graphic is similar to some of the petrochemical industry advertisements in the states on how "green" they are with their new efficiencies and fuels. It's misdirection, showing you how "good" something is when in reality, it's still bad. E.g. "green" fuels are still burning petrochemicals, a volcano still spews CO2 (and a whole host of other things that are bad for the atmosphere).
An old saying: There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.

It is indeed bad, but its an improvement on what the situation would normally be. Cant really see why thats a bad thing in itself.

All I know is that I am supposed to go to Paris and then Moscow Monday Next to get my son and bring him home, and it may not happen.

Overheard at the local Bar.
My wife is stranded in Moscow! Can someone assure me that there will be no flights for a few more days. It is so peaceful here.

I was 'stuck' in Spain for the past week but it looks like Ryanair will be paying for accommodation and meals ..... although I won't hold my breath
-
Have you managed to get back to Ireland, Mike?
(And how come you get paid by Ryanair for living in your own apartment in Spain?)
