Recently Designed Geico Commercials Using SketchUp
-
Hi all,
I wanted to show some of my work as a production designer on a few Geico commercials I recently worked on.http://web.me.com/kenmacdesign/Geico/The_Geico_Spots.html
I use SU all the time and swear by it.
Hope you find some of this stuff interesting.
Ken MacLeodI posted this twice by mistake...Sorry for the goof....

That is the nice thing about SketchUp, it is so easy even a caveman can do it.

That is brilliant. I just got the link to work. There was a problem the first time. Knowing nothing about the sketchup connection I already loved that commercial. I have been trying to get folks I know to use it just this way. The closest I came was on one of my own projects photographing Doug Parker the CEO of US Airways. There were a bunch of large model airliners in the corporate lobby and I wanted to make sure they might work with him standing among them. Got paid well for the photo but absorbed the SketchUp time. It was no where as detailed as your project, but served as proof of concept for me and helped with Art director buy in.

so, the SU stuff is just for previsual or did you composite some stuff?

Was this only to get the set built or did other members of the crew get involved? For instance, did the Director of photography use it to set up camera angles and lighting positions. Where actors moved to various locations within the model? Did carpenters study the model prior to any construction work? Did the director block out the development of sequences within the virtual world? How long did the shoot take? How long was Charlie Daniels on set? Did he see the virtual model prior to signing up for the gig?
