      Dear David,

As usual, quality work. Was it all SU and Layout?

      Kind regards,
      Bob

        Dear Bob,

Thank you very much. The illustrations in the article are just high res exports from SketchUp. there was a little bit of post SketchUp editing to create the transparent (blue) areas and to insert scaled down versions of screws and bolts which I exported be themselves so they'd hold detail. All the "rendering" was done in Sketchup, though.

There is an associated plan document which I did in LayOut. It can be downloaded from Fine Woodworking.

        Dave

                Awesome Dave, it's fantastic πŸ‘

I love this sort of thing, it is clearly well presented and modeled.

Did you add all text and arrows in LO?

                  Thank you all.

Dylan, I didn't add the text and arrows for the article and to be honest, I don't know what application was used for that. I also did a proper plan document in PDF form. that was done in LO. I used dimensions, arrows and text in LO for that.

Great work... again showing the power of native SU. Love it!

I'm a cabinet maker and mill worker and I think I'd be putting that bench in my house as furniture. I'd be afraid to get it dusty or stained and marked with glue!!! Awesome job Dave.

                        Cheers,
                        Jeff

Have I mentioned how much of a laugh I get out of some of the Signatures on here!

                          Thanks Guys.

Jeff, it's Garrett Hacks's bench. He built a new one after 30 years with the previous one. It certainly is very sturdy. There's a video of him talking about and using the bench on the FWW site.

I finally got a copy of the magazine yesterday. I must say I'm pleased with how the images look. They don't look blatantly like SketchUp drawings and fit very well with the hand=drawn illustrations. It's different seeing them in print in the magazine than on the screen.
