Software to restore delted files?
-
Most modern programs have a backup file somewhere. You could find out if yours has one then look for it.
-
At least for recovering files purged from the Recycle bin, I use "File Scavenger". Overwritten data seems a little bit hopeless, however, unless your software makes periodic backups, as Honoluludesktop pointed out.

It was one of my scripts I had been working with. They're written with Notepad++ - no recovery files.
I had synced the plugin folder with Live Mesh - but as some point I must have synced back an older version... gaargh! -
I can recommend recuva (analyses the disc for deleted files and shows if/how much was overwritten).
Some operating systems make shadow copies, that means "save" does not overwrite the original file, but creates a new and the older version is thrown out of the index. If you have for example vista, right click on the file and go to file properties.

Can you synch a text editor with Google Docs? It keeps track of all changes.

I have software to make backup - but with the last reinstall of the OS I forgot to set up the plugins folder... x_X

Hi Thomas, Whenever I open source code, I immediately "save as" namexx.ext, where xx is a incremented number. Every so often I clean up the folder. Saved my butt countless times.
Well, I try to do it at least once at at the start of every programming session:-)

If its important dont use the computer you had the plugin on, otherwise you risk overwriting it. Once youv done that, have a look at this: http://lifehacker.com/393084/how-to-recover-deleted-files-with-free-software

The file was on my laptop. I can't get to the HD...
Bugrit, millennium hand an' shrimp!
Seems that I have to rewrite it all again.

Just had a final look through using an app called Disk Investigator that allowed me raw access to all the clusters on the HD. Did a scan for text I knew was present, but I wasn't able to find the version I was looking for. At least not intact. Whatever wasn't an old version turned out to be a scrambled mess. Think the overwrite happened a couple of days ago - so there'd been quite a bit of disk activity.
I was hoping for an release of Selection Toys v2.0 this weekend - not any more.
Buggerit!
