Here is an example of what can be done using Light Layer Blending in Indigo. The workflow is incredibly simple. All you do is set the layer of each light source prior to rendering. As you are rendering (and after) you can adjust gain, turn on/off, and adjust RGB values for each layer. Remember that all of the output from the video comes from just one render!

To create the video, I just saved a bunch of the rendered images and made them into a movie with Windows Movie Maker. It took less than 5 minutes to make the movie.

            Thanks for the tip, Whaat!
I was trying to figure out how to do something similar to SOAP (http://www.vimeo.com/5613002) without having to wait for it to become integrated in a renderer. Your explanation gave me the answer, at least for the multilight part.
Now I only need a video editor that has "additive" layers and I'm all set.

                Very nice result Whaat.
I was wondering if the sun itself can be placed on a seperate layer , apart from the sky . Is that possible in the latest (Sk)Indigo?

                  Thanks biebel!

The latest SkIndigo does indeed support separate layers for sun, and sky. 😄

In what cases would sun/sky separation come in handy?
