SuLuxrender

Here's a model from Google Ware House. Rendering with Luxrender. Its been cooking for 1 hr 42 minutes. I'm not use the recommended render settings and may be i messed it up.

LuxBlend?

Not sure why but my reply button disappeared from this window! Weird!
Hey David how are you finding LuxRender? Have they developed an interface yet?
It looks like a very promising open source application. How mate did you get from SU to Lux?
15 min and that clean, hmmm? Still a bit grubby for that time? What size did you render at?

Here's the render at 3:35:56 hours on a single core.

Richard:
I think its called an interface. I exported the Sketchup Model with a ruby script called lwo_export.rb and i imported that into Blender. Blender isnt need if the script was written for luxrender.
The ruby script was downloaded from here:
http://forum.rigsofrods.com/index.php?topic=14049.0%3BtopicseenBefore I exported the Model i exploded my groups and components and set my units to engineering.
Below is a picture of the interface, there you can save your render and return
to it to finish it in the future.

You almost got me... wonder what keeps them making a SU exporter. Anyhow Luxrender has made some impressive development. The result looks good, but should cook far longer.

notareal:
I stopped the render and didnt save it because i wanted to start rendering on
another model. On the render above there is an error under the ceiling of that
porch. Not sure, if the normals are reversed or that im not using the
correct materials or settings. -
True...

Using blender for some time, I have this question. Why not to use the internal renderer, its really fast.
There are some tricks importing SU projects in blender, the most important is to convert triangles to real polys. SU uses double sided polys, so textures should be assigned on "white" face not the "blue". Should reassign 2d Alpha transparent pngs too. All these are complicated and difficult.
Exporting 3ds from blender to SU, is very easy though. Blender is a "high end modeler". Do some nice digital sculpts (UV textured), bake and import them to SU. -
Ive tried to avoid using Blender because of the hard to use interface, i feel, i need a higher IQ and extra fingers to get around. Its extra work and slows me down. Maybe when they change it in version 2.5.

My favorite workflow involves blender and zbrush. For one month I was thinking that I was really stupid. Then I found everything easy. Blender is not SU, but now its a real tool to me. I just love it. Just pm to me if you need help. But don't expect tools like push pull, ok there's one like this. There's an optional modeler, "silo", it costs something like 150$, have a try its a great app too.

Thanks, Michalis.
