            Thanks guys.

Pete, it's a mesh. Very fat modeling for me compared to the way I usually draw. Each section of the padding is an instance of a component and those surfaces were created with Soap Skin Bubble. The buttons are simple cylinders with softening applied to the front (top) edge.

I think the thing to do is export a jpg of just the quilted part and use that as a material instead.

322Kb for the entire model with the padding as a material. 1.2 Mb for the model as meshes.

              Hey dave it looks great!

If you were to do just as JPG you could have done it in PS pretty quickly and then with some folding near the buttons!

Haven't used soap skin (or any other rubies for that matter) but when I look at what you and pete do with them I realise I'm dragging the chain!

Good to see your still hard at it mate!

                Thank you Richard.

The second image I posted was created by making a JPG export of the original padded surface. I suppose if I had PS I could have done the shading there but this seems to work.

Pete's the expert. I'm not even dragging the chain; I'm pushing it. 😄

                Cheers my friend.

Dave, they both look good however the second one does look flat to me. You can see on the first one how the shadow follows the contours of the mesh at the top which is absent on the second one.
Care to share an image of the mesh?

                      Hi Eric,

I agree with you that the second one does look flatter although it is made from an image of the upholstery in the first shot. I think it would work for a quick look though and when used as part of a more complex model, the savings in file size would probably be welcome.

I don't have the model here at work but I made a section view this morning before leaving the house.

As I indicated, each 'pillow' is an instance of a component. I used the same numbers for each in the SSB plugin.

I'll do an image of the mesh this evening and post it.
