Is there a way to generate these patterns in sketchup?

it looks like 2d voronoi in my opinion
for 3d voronoi there are plugins and scripts for
3ds max, rhino, and maya and sketchup.

for 2d voronoi, my choice was rhinoscript(pointset reconstruction) and grasshopper voronoi definition. grasshopper updated diagram automatically when i manipulate the point cloud (it was a bit buggy and couldnt calculate large number of point cloud). and after creating voronoi patterns it was projected on to a surface and exported it to sketchup.

here are some good examples of voronoi
          http://fiveprime.org/hivemind/Tags/voronoi/Recent
and this was a little test i did last year

Thats neato. Looks like the kind of thing we should develop an entire system of architecture around.

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.

Its been tried, but aesthetic patterns is quite tricky, or so i hear.

Oh, and theres some voronoi tools for SU: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=180&t=4601&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&hilit=voronoi

Not sure how good it is, though, as i havent used it myself.

πŸ˜‰ that was a little underhand jab at all the architects around here. I see that stuff all the time presented at school by the architects students. And the teachers seem to buy it. It doesn't matter if the space fails as long as the walls were designed to look like plant cells....bleh.

Well Chris, I agree that it is kind of trendy right now, but it is not just about students, you could see many big studios, winning competitions, using this geometry. And it seems like it will be there for a while, so it would be interesting to have it as a tool, and putting Sketchup in a higher level than Rhino or other softwares.
