Lauren & Mom ..... not too bright?
-
Microsoft has released the fifth laptop hunter ad in which Lauren and mom go searching for a PC for her to take to law school.
She says she needs a laptop with speed and battery life for less than $1700. They choose a Dell XPS 13a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, and a $899 price tag.
I don't understand why anyone with 1700 free dollars would choose a 900 dollar computer but you can watch the ad yourself below.

With 1700$ saved to buy a laptop I would simply buy a 1700$ laptop or at least something very close to that 1689 or 1720 or soemthing i mean i would try to buy the best one i can find for the money i have, that means i would get the best quality for my buck...has this world crysis hit so hard that people don't think right anymore??
OH THE INHUMANITY OF IT ALL, THE HORROR!!!?? -
..... it must be the effects of the 'credit crunch'

Makes sense actually, watch the ad again and see.
She had a $1700 budget and she had a set of specs she needed (also mentioned in ad) she looked around and found exactly what she wanted for under 1K.
She at one point found a Toshiba that was too heavy, and Acer that was too small and a Mac that was too expensive.
The point I guess is that with a PC you have choice.

Can't get to see the ad.
But as it is an ad I doubt that it was set up as, "buy any computer you like up to $1,700", but rather, "we have a budget of $1700 to spend on a computer, these are the options open to us."
Or maybe the were given $1,700 and were allowed to buy the $900 computer and pocket the rest? That's what I'd do if it was offered to me.

John
They pocketed the difference, so all in all she got what she wanted with $700 plus to spend on shoes.

I am inclined to think that happened also, $700 on shoes and don't forget handbags
That is what my good lady would do

I didn't watch the ad, but if there is a difference between men and women in buying consumer technology products it lies just here.
$1700 buys a laptop that can run SU well.
$900 buys a laptop with a decent screen, good keyboard, and enough power to use the Internet and office applications efficiently.
You don't need SU to study law. Even the chosen computer might be slightly overkill for the purpose. Corporate customers with users running mainly Office applications usually buy much cheaper computers than $900.
I understand that the players of 3D first-person shooting games are mostly men. That I gather is the ultimate reason for buying of something like 90% of all the "power" computers.
Instead of shoes there might even be some applications to invest in.Anssi
