IPhone

OK, I'm not a gadget freak and for me a mobile phone is just a phone I take out and about so why would I want an iPhone!
Well, a guy at work has one and has loaded a free spirit level application. Oh yes, that'll be a bit of gimmicky rubbish. NOT SO! 0.1 degree display AND it gave a slightly different angle just with a post-it note added under one corner. That I could use on site.
Now if there was an application that set a base point at one position and gave the horizontal and vertical coordinates of a second position to a reasonable accuracy it would be bought tomorrow!

An iPhone is worth it just for the decent web-browser. Everything else is pure bonus. You get a jolly good iPod. A nice photo album in your pocket. A moderately capable camera. It can play some games that a lot of people like. It is always net-connected. It can find you maps and soon, will be a turn-by-turn GPS nav system. It can control your Mac when playing FrontRow stuff. It can control your house lights/security/etc.
Oh, and it's not bad as a cellphone.
All in all, for $200 plus the equivalent of an afternoon's work to run it for a year, I think it's a pretty decent device.
