Depth in 2D components....
-
Hi all,
Just playing around with an idea i had to create depth in 2D components...I found some 2D tree symbols a while back and wondered what it would be like to make faces and offset them behind the linework of the tree, overlap the faces and tweak opacity to give depth.... the image I've attached may not be the best example so I've attached the .skp file also.
I've got a number of others I am working so too so let me know your thougths so far....
Cheers,

interesting... I was expecting something along the lines of Flash animation, or oragami, or layered cut-outs... you know... I can see potential here.

Andrew, I like the sweet simplicity of the shapes and linework. Have you tried rotating the leaves (with their lines) 45deg toward horizontal...i.e. the 2.5d concept?

Thanks Tom, not sure that the component will still 'face camera' if you do this?
Fletch, I'm interested in your layer cut-outs idea? can you elaborate a little....?

It would certainly do, Andrew.
Also see some ideas from Susan's presentation at BaseCamp (it's somewhere half way in the pdf document where se cuts and rotates the kid's leg in a 2d face me component).
Really cool trick!
