Can sketchup do this
-
hi all, im an architecture student and a sketchup user
im modeling organic design and was wondering which kind of plugins allows me to do organic structure ..
for example the sandbox and subdevide allow me to do traingles and rectangles shapes ... but whatf if i want other shapes ... ??here is a example
these example are somehow the way i want to model my design ... which plugins can be helpul to achieve that ?

To do that I'd use Subdivide and Smooth and FFD. I'd then use the group as a basic template on which to draw the structure. I'd then delete the group, then use line2cyl.rb from http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/em_geo_page.htm .

Instead of using S+S and FFD to do the shape. You could also make the first shape with with the Bezierspline plugin and taper maker.

Check this thread on pushpullbar:
its a good source of info on how to design this type of structures.

thank you guys for answers ,
im not a biggner in sketchup im doin some intersting stuff in it ... so its okay with me to handle such issues... im just trying to find easier ways to model such things

TopMod will be maybe also a cool solution for the structure
It's free
Interest is that you draw the "primary surface wire structure" then the prog calculates all intersections!
You can import inside any object format obj then launch some crazzy functions!
Then recall it in SU for make all that you want! Here a little try by me

The pushpullbar project linked to was actually developed in Rhino with Rhino-specific scripts so while some of the info will be useful, you will have to look elsewhere for your answer...
