Scenes created in sketchup are not the same in layout
-
I was working with an architectural drawing and had saved scenes for the plan and sections. For the plan view, I had the section display turned on so that I could see where the section was being cut, but then turned it off for the section scenes so that they would not be grayed out. However, when I sent the model to layout, the sections were grayed like the section display was on. Also, I had set the background color and turned off the sky and ground colors in my model, but in layout the background showed up as the default blue and brown colors. After going back to sketchup several times and re-saving, eventually it showed up correctly in layout. I did nothing different than I had done before, just repeated the same action until it came out right. But then, when I went to export the layout file, the grayed sections and default background showed up in the pdf. I tried exporting it as a jpeg also and the same result. I ended up screen grabbing each page and creating a new layout file with tiffs instead of using the program as it is intended which was really frustrating.

Hi CRT and welcome,
Did you make sure to update our scenes after you made these changes?
-
Yes I did update my scenes. Eventually it worked in the layout file after updating and saving them about 10 times. But the issue reappeared when I exported the pdf. I had saved my layout file before I tried to export also.

Hm. I don't know. I haven't heard this before. I can see you are on the Mac and maybe this is something to do with it although Mac's support PDF and transparency (which your embedded png file has in the background once sky and ground turned off) better than Windows.
Could you try to rename your LO file to zip, open it and find a ref subfolder with the png images. Check if they also have the sky and ground colours.

I'm not sure about what you are suggesting - could you clarify?

Actually, there is a tutorial about it here (of course the reason of the tut was different than trouble shooting).
But in the meanwhile, I had another idea (oh gosh, keep forgetting new features): in LO, in the SU dialog on the tray, go to the styles tab and also make sure that Background is unchecked (although I think this shouldn't affect the output).
I'll soon have to go now but the Google guys have woken up by now so let's hope Barry or Jeff chimes in (I am also curious what the deal here is).

Thanks Gaieus, I will check out the tutorial. I did check and uncheck the background box in the styles tab and it did not fix the problem.

The problem most likely deals with your Styles not being saved.
It boils down to, if you open the Styles Inspector in SU and you
see a circular arrow in the style preview, it most likely won't
display correctly in LO. You have to make sure you save new Styles
when you select your Scene(s) in SU, so you don't see the circular
arrow showing up in the Style thumbnail. One way to get around this
problem is to be using least 2 Styles in your Scenes.
What I mean there is, "Scene 1" should have one style and some other Scene
should have a different style. I would create a bogus Scene with some style
you know you won't ever use. Then to make sure what you are going to get in LO,
switch to the bogus Scene in SU, then switch back to the Scene you want in LO.
This will wipe out the circular arrow in the Styles editor. After all that.... were/are you just using one Style and seeing a circular arrow?
Plus, there's currently a bug where you change the Style on a Scene in SU and
LO won't reflect that change. This will be fixed in LO2 M1.See also-

That was the problem - I had not updated my style. Thanks jhauswirth.

Yes I did update my scenes...
Yes, and with the scenes you should have updated your styles as well - that's why I asked.
