Firefox can pinpoint your location, with 10-20 mtrs accuracy

Privacy invasion IMO, even though they say now you can opt out, when businesses start working with this to solicit goods to you based on your location it will be a permanent feature without an opt-out option.
And thats just business with a profit intention, what about the freaks out there? -
Interesting. I wonder if it can tell if I move my desktop from the West Wing to the stable block?
I've had Google Maps on my Blackberry for quite some time now. The accuracy is very variable. In Greece this summer, it actually got to within a few metres...the correct corner of the swimming pool I was sunbathing by. However, here at home, it consistently places my location about 2 kilometers away from where I actually live.

Sounds interesting but I get this mesage: "Error getting your position. Mea Culpa!"
-
Google maps on my phone is convinced I'm in Basingstoke. I'm about 300 miles away from Basingstoke.

You got the Latin version? That figures.
-
Same on my phone, Coen. The actual position is triangulated from cellphone poles and projected onto Google maps. The satnav is far more accurate...like distinguishing between the front and rear of the house, but can often take some time to pick up any satellites

I'm getting the same "Mea Culpa!". If I understand the description, it may be that it only works for mobile computers. I'm hard wired here.
It also seems like another loss of privacy and more information for the marketing people.

Geode pinpointed my laptop location within a block.

wow! this is kinda scary.. ok maybe its the hangover from the movie EagleEye i saw last night.. but privacy invasion is very much real with all this technology!
