I hate to have my first post be asking for help from thousands of miles away, enlisting someone I may never meet. For good karma, and in hopes someone will help me, I promise to help contribute to this forum where I can! I typically reside on the Podium Forums since I work for Cadalog, but I know a thing or two about SU. Per Stinkie's recommendation, I thought I'd try here for help too. Here we go:

I am starting my Plastics/Vehicle Engineering senior project at University. I am planning to use bio based polymers and fibers (err, fibres) to make bio-composites and run strength tests on the samples I create. The results would show if the bio-composites I create can be used in automotive and other applications, but specifically for a hybrid bus our Vehicle Research Institute was asked to manufacture.

      Why I need help:
I have located a distributor of a bio based resin that I want to test because it fits all the parameters of what I need. As you may have guessed, the company is located in London. I tried finding a U.S. distributor but apparently the company I found is the only company that has what I need. That being said, I was wondering if someone could go check out the company for me. Maybe take a few pictures of the place and of their products (specifically the Biothan 2 MD 775 N Clear Casting Resin). I mostly just want to be sure this is a legitimate business and they aren't ripping me off (of course they could still be ripping me off if they do exist). I'm hoping the £40 I was quoted included the product and shipping, not £40 to ship the £30, 1kg product.

So if anyone wants to check it out for me here are the details.
I was given this address in the e-mail I recieved today, However the website lists a different address http://www.canonburyarts.co.uk/about.html.

      Canonbury Arts Ltd.

      65 Halliford Street

      Islington

      London

      N1 3HF

Call me paranoid but I have my reasons. According to one of my professors, she wasn't aware resins like this were possible, let alone being produced. This is saying a lot since she not only keeps up with developments in polymer science around the world, but is also doing research on bio polymers.

        Welcome to SCF James.

We have over 10.000 members here ( 😍 new benchmark) and many from London, I hope that one will be able to help.

While you are here look around, get scripts, join a few heated debates in the corner bar or just do your own thing.

        Glad you finally made it.

          Hi James,

Not in London right now, but the location and the website look completely genuine, I'd suggest you call them up and talk. Or you might want to go to the source and check out http://www.bioresin.de

The homepage on their website says they have just moved to Halliford St. from Upper St. but they obviously haven't updated their About page yet. It's only a couple of blocks between the two.

              Bob,

Thanks. I did find the bioresin.de site earlier this week. The trouble is my Spanish doesn't help much there. However, I did read some of their product spec sheets that were in English. The spec sheets listed wildly different qualities and working conditions than those listed on the Canonbury site, which concerns me.

Someone pointed out to me that Canonbury is most likely not the manufacturer of the product I seek. If I can find a U.S. distributor, my actions will be much more sustainable (seeing as that is the whole focus of my project). From what I've turned up is that most, if not all, of the research has been done in Europe. This leads me to believe that the particular product I want is only commercially available in Europe. There are bio-plastics here, but not the kind I need.

I guess I will have to bite the bullet and just call them. 👎
