                It is the Braun T41 Pocket Radio (Braun Taschenempfänger T41). It dates from 1956. Designed by Dieter Rams, head of design at Braun. Higher resolution pics of the T41 can be found here: http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/braun_taschenempf_t41.html.

                Alan's link shows it with the matching P1 Pocket Record Player that dates from 1959. The '45' vinyl record would be put on the metallic spindle and a little rectangular port opens on the face of the unit so the pickup needle can track along the underside of the record -- no arm like conventional phonographs. When you are done playing, the port closes protecting the needle so you can pack the unit away in your pocket. Cool.

                There is lots of info on Dieter Rams on the internet as he is considered one of the most important designers of the 20th century. He is regarded as the inspiration for the designs of Apple.
