Woodworking collection on 3D warehouse
-
Most of the models you see in the 3D warehouse are cra....... ummm.... less than worthy of the effort to download them.
Is there a collection that is vetted so that the poorer modes are weeded out? Is anyone willing to start and/or help maintain a collection? Is there another central location that can be searched that is more controlled than the 3D warehouse?

I've never seen a general library of SketchUp models other than the 3D Warehouse. I do know what you mean about many of the models you find there. Depending upon what you're after, you could look through the Components/Materials/Styles forum here. A number of folks have posted some very nice models.
What sort of models are you looking for?

That's my point, there is no easily accessible location to find decent woodworking models. I am not really looking for a model I am looking to create a decent collection that others can contribute to. I was thinking of starting a warehouse collection that would only have models that met certain criteria, like having each piece of wood as a separate component (or group).
If there was enough interest from this forum / section it could become THE collection for woodworking sketchup models. If/when it became large enough it could be be split into sub-collections like "Simple projects", "Furniture", "Outdoor" etc.
If there is not enough interest then I won't bother, that's why I am asking here to gauge the interest level. I would start a thread (that may even become a sticky?) inviting people to submit woodworking models for the collection, if they are good enough they would be added. If not, then the creator would be told why the model doesn't met the cut and what they could do to improve their model.

I could go for that, my models are always detailed since I used them for concept building, design, problem resolution, and parts dimensioning. Is there a limit to the size of models on 3D-Warehouse? I have never checked, and have only downloaded "props" for some of my models.
I have a collection there of EZ Smart Woodworking System components that I modeled for my use in designing my setups and put them there for other EZ users to use in planning their setups. These components are built to 1:1 scale from "real world parts", not just hollow shells for "looks only".

There are many needs in the 3D warehouse. I was just doing a rough plan for a friend who is thinking of adding a porch to a cabin and I would have loved to be able to pull in some furniture and appliances to show how the space works, but what I downloaded from the warehouse was . . . like you said.
It would be great if there was a collection of properly scaled, models of common items. They should be available in a variety of file sizes. A refrigerator should be available as a box with a line on it to show massing and traffic patterns, or showing some detail to show what the kitchen environment might feel like, or fully detailed for those trying to be photo realistic.
If it's out there somewhere, let me know.
