...I learned this new term yesterday: why doesn't "immoral" work anymore? All these shades of fraud used to skim layers of profit off the surface of the economy (cutting my miserable wealth by +7% in just 3 months) are portrayed as an evil temptress impossible to resist: HORSE PUCKY!

This reminded me of a great article from "The Onion" I read yesterday. Its about looking for the next bubble for us Americans to invest in. It can be found here.

If you're unfamiliar with the Onion, it is a completely satirical newspaper. None of it is true per se, its just based on contemporary issues, but blown out of proportion. All quotes and names are false, but it is amazing how accurate all the false information is ๐Ÿ˜„

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.

Ron, contrary to popular belief: one can serve one's country without agreeing with how it is currently governed...or even trusting the people who make up it's current political power structure.

And yes: I am changing my mind concerning intentions about Iraq's oil...maybe it wasn't about getting hands on it?

This may come as a surprise to some, but I don't trust the current power structure at all and I certainly wasn't implying that veterans can't be critical of the government, or the military for that matter. In fact, more than anyone they have earned this right.

BTW, in what context did you see the term "moral hazard"?

Sorry, Ron: knee-jerk on my part...that bit of not so long past history has left some sore spots.

In case you're not asking about the cartoon...here's a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moral_hazard

Since you probably are: In general, I think an awful lot of Bush's presidency has been opportunist framed and flamed in a "moral hazard" context. Specifically, I thought like many (even staunch supporters of going that I know) the real reason for going to Iraq was to get the oil (flowing :`) I see now the gross windfall profits being made (on several fronts) from the flow disruption could easily have been the real reason...thus the cartoon's relavance for me.

Case in point brewing now: Texas and Oklahoma oilmen are starting to open wells capped decades ago when they couldn't compete with the Middle East...wells over reserves larger than anywhere else on earth. But instead of (publically) encouraging such, Bush has chimed in with the off-shore rant again. Seems opportunistic to me.

I don't think Bush or anyone else in the administration deliberately went into Iraq to drive the price of oil up. Let's not forget about UN Resolution 1444 (I think that's the number). The price of oil is overwhelmingly driven by supply and demand variables.

I think ALL of government is infected with moral hazard; from local to federal. This is a great term. Their lack of moral behavior creates a hazard for all of us. It's getting worse and the one thing that just really pisses me off is the lack of accountability.

                          Vote Libertarian, I say.

                          Ron
