A Segmented Turning

Just experimenting this evening. This was about 5 minutes worth of work. I thought it turned out kind of neat.

Definitely neat Dave! Can you elaborate on your process/technique?

Hi Fred. Thank you. Here's the how to.
First I drew the pattern of diamonds and triangles on a flat surface. I applied a couple of wood grain materials and then, with the Camera set to Parallel Projection and a straight on view, I exported the pattern as a JPG. In Picasa, I cropped the JPG tight to the pattern.
Next I drew the turning. I made it the same height as I had drawn the pattern. I also drew a face the same size as the original pattern. To this face I imported and applied the pattern JPG. Right click on it and choose Texture>Projected. Then I applied it to the turning. The final step was to use the excellent Whaat's excellent UV Tools plugin to make the pattern fit. Another material was added to the rim and to the inside et voilà!

Dave,
Thanks for sharing. A nice clear explanation. The result looks terrific.
