Scanner problem ..

OK, my scanner's not working. I get a mssg saying the computer cannot detect scanner, make sure device is turned on. HP scanner, I'm on win xp. checked the connections, they seem fine, no power light on the HP scanner to tell if it's on or not.
Ever since SPII I've had to access scanner thru Start>Accessories>Scanner Wizard instead of thru the Programs>HP Scanner. Neither work now.
any ideas how to troubleshoot this, good people??

Check what model your scanner is, go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your scanner.
Complain voiceferously if that doesnt work...

Uninstal the scanner, disconnect it then get new drivers and instal them and reconnect scanner.
Thank goodness you have a HP scanner and NOT a Visioneer usb one Like me (pain in the arse) that requires 'one page' software junk to work.
