In case you haven't checked on 24th April a new version - big update IMO. Works faster, has cool sun mode showing who's in night and day. All the original low res appears to have been updated, text works better - definitely worth the download.

At a rough guess, I would say that one of the vehicles making all those cool street level panoramas is a large white and yellow van. Pan right as it drives by the Google Campus.
Rename zip to kmz, or just burrow in and double-click the kml.
