My layout wishes

The speed of InDesign (or even better, PageMaker)
Ability to import all kinds of 2D vector and raster graphics in addition to 3D SU.
Exploding and editing 2D vector formats, especially PDF
Output PDF pages with the model windows in 3D PDFTotal control of the SU model view from within Layout.
Together with SU, the creation and maintenance of scenes needs some rethinking and ironing out the quirks

I know I could start a new thread but my wish seems to fit yours (that are excellent ideas by the way)
The ability of snapping LO geometry to the geometry in SU (I know it would mean a different interactivity between the two apps...)
-
I've been using LO for two small projects lately.
So I would add 2 very technical features.:
for sections : hatching
and for reflected ceiling plans : a dimensions setting to invert them, so they would be ok when looked at from below. -
Tape measure tool please.
If we insert models from our scap book eg cars or others that we make how can we measure them to ensure they are the correct scale. The cars models are only in feet and inches, no good for those in metric!I know you can draw a line to scale but a tape measure tool would be handy thanks
Cheers

Hi Jeff,
You can always change the units in a downloadad (imported) model tzo metric - in fact I do this all the time!
True that a separate tape measure would be nice in LO but the problem is that you cannot snap to the model there since it practically just creates a raster image of the current view in SU therefore no inference for the "tape measure tool". Other than this, when in parallel projection + one of the standard views, you can always get a scaled image of your model in LO - and you can set any scale factor to match your needs. -
hi guys !!
I totally agree. Layout needs a few power tweaks... personally in addition to all that is said... I would love to see Pantone and NCS support (even RAL) perhaps on the colors, or in scrapbook. The thing is, sometimes we chose a nice color that looks great on th monitor.. and then the printing is a mess. I know I can calibrate the monitor, if I had a high end monitor... and config the printer and all .. Still.. it would be a huge help.
In general, I think Layout is brilliant, because it's very focused. most of the time architects and designers, are composing presentation panels, most of us are using illustrator or whatever adobe expensive stuff, and the reality is that we are using just a fragment of the abilities of the software.... not clever!
Layout need to be real alternative to composing, so it needs a bit (just a bit) of "power tweak"... but the main issue is to maintain the aim and the simplicity of it.
I would imagine it a bit more sleek like apple's keynote. With beautiful customizable templates.. and all that I mentioned above..
am I a dreamer or what ???!?!Cheers to all

Ability to create door/window schedules based on components in the model.
-
Ability to assign different lineweights to different layers.

My layout wishes would be default metric scrapbooks.
There's a whole world out here that don't use the american scale system...
Best,
