Check out Antics if you have ever wanted to add fluid character animation to your SketchUp sets or create 3D animated visualizations with complex camera choreography. Antics is based upon gaming technology, so animating is as easy as drag and drop, point and click.

Antics is the perfect complement to SketchUp and the best part is that like SketchUp, Antics has a free version and there are 1000s of interactive characters, vehicles, props, sets, animations, etc.

        Hi all,

Just a quick word to let you know that Antics V3.1 is now available. It's still a free download.

The big news in this version is that you can now import models from SketchUp. So with the free version of Sketchup that's available your entire workflow is right there for free!

Another cool feature is that you can browse the Google 3D Warehouse from inside Antics, choose from the thousands of free models on offer, then drop it straight into your scene! I just had an X-wing flying around the White House in a couple of minutes Cool

You can download the BasePack from our site for free - it's fully featured and unrestricted so you can use it for as long as you like.

This domain may be for sale!

              Hi kali_007,

There is indeed a free download of Antics V3.1, but you do have to go through the usual webstore process to make a $0.00 "purchase."

Simply follow this link: http://www.antics3d.com/buy_antics.php and register for the community site to download Antics V3.1 BasePack from your relevant webstore (either UK/Rest of World or US/Canada.) Click "Buy Now" for the V3.1 BasePack and you'll just fill in the usual fields, but you'll notice there is no payment information. It's free, I promise. You'll be able to download it within a minute or 2 of registering.

Let me know if you have further questions.

              Thanks,
              Brad

PS - It's also worth mentioning, as it's come up before, that we don't share, distribute or sell your contact information, so don't worry about getting any spam from signing up.

                  I have downloaded the Program.
I am using ANTICS V5, but it doesnt have any content library.
The characters lack the basic animation and emotion content library.
I have experimented with the BVh hacker, but it is cumbersome, and hit or miss and poorly labled.
A very frustrating process, when time is money/?

                  Any suggestions?
I would like to see some progress with ANTICS & my SketchUp models?
                  Thanks,
                  Andrew

Antics is gone, never got a chance to try it anyways.

Getting the perfect sig is hard...

                    Google it!

I am so frustrated with Antics. I spent a lot of time and energy trying to learn it, only to find out that I did not have any real content (emotion or scenes). Is Antics V3 even worth Downloading and installing - If I am only gonna come up short on content and animation tutorials? I need something affordable that I can use for Architectural Animation and Google SketchUp!
HOWEVER - Here is a Great Link to DOWNLOAD a FREE copy of Atics V3 (with animation content !!! 😉.
                      http://antics3d.blogspot.com/

Well... I-Clone is Good... but Expensive, and it has so many Different PLUG-In packs (It will be $1000 or More) .

Sketchers Studio is a NEW neat animation tool. I am looking into using it right now. I have tried using Antics 3D V5 back in 2008, but, then they went out of business, and I have not been able to get content for their library since. I hear I Clone and Poser 8 are also good choices.

Chime in, If you think I am into something here.
I love hearing feedback. I love using SketchUp!

                        Hi Andrew.

Have you looked at Unity at all? Unity will work with SketchUp Pro (with SUP's FBX exporter), has all kinds of brilliant stuff built in, and is free as long as you are not making over $100,000 per year(!).

Oh, it is also cross-platform (Mac & PC), has a really great interface- which looks very 'Cocoa', and also supports Android as well as iPhone and iPad devices.

Just download it and have a play with the "island" demo it comes with!! 😎

I've looked at Sketchers Studio, but am slightly worried that nothing has been updated for almost a year now- although it's a very nice looking price.

                        regards,

I should mention Greg of Caffeinated Games Ltd's brilliant little Sket2FBX app, that converts COLLADA to FBX rather well (I couldn't get the SU one to work very well). It needs the MONO framework to get it to work, but that's no problem. 😄

                          Cheers Greg! 😄

                            Yes,

"Animation is an Area that really showcases a communicative Professional Architectural Presentation. Having 3D Character Animation is the icing on the cake". - Andrew Telker

                            Latest Comments on Character Animation:

I have been working with IClone, from Reallusion to add Character Animation to the Architectural Building & Scenes I have created with Google SketchUp. IClone4 is a good program, but has its initial limitations.

                            ICLONE4
                            http://www.reallusion.com/iclone/

                            Iclone Pros:
Price is only $200. Interface is Moderately easy to work with, as compared to other animation programs. 3D Exchangeallows a large library of items to be converted into Iclone format from a variety of 3D Objects found in the Google Warehouse. Special Effects are getting better, as the versions are progressing, I can't wait to see IClone5.

                            Iclone Cons:
Some of the animation has limitations to the Quality of the Final Render, but this is a compromise against time and PC power (as compared to Disney's tools). Content packs can be VERY Expensive, if purchased from the IClone Online Store. If objects are imported from SketchUp, they still need to be Rigged with Nodes for animation and pupeteering purposes.

                            All in All,
I think ICLONE4 is a SOLID Character Animation program for SketchUp. Iclone just had a rendering competition with SketchUp, and I am curious to see the winner, although I didnt get to compete this year. I am anxious to see what they will do together NEXT. 2011 Should be a GREAT YEAR for Animation & SketchUp.

                            on UNITY 3D:
                            http://unity3d.com/
I looked into the Unity Platform,
If I used Unity, I would be concerned that my clients would all have to download the Unity Software in order to view my animated files, and/or perspective "Fly-Throughs" virtual tours. This may prove to be a viable option, and I will look more into this. Some Youtube Videos always helps explain things.

                            on Movie Storm
                            http://www.moviestorm.co.uk/
MovieStorm looks really cool. The style and interface appears very similar to Antics or IClone, and the price and method of purchasing extra content is similar also. I just wonder if it is compatible with SketchUp. Well, we have some more 3D Character animation work to do.

                            on Blender
Free, but extremely complicated, and excellent results for 3D Animated Filmakers. Google files need to be converted, but they will work with Blender.

                            on Antics V5
Blah... I wasted enough time with this program. If a Program goes out of business, just Move on, and Count your Losses. IClone, took over where Antics V5 left off, with facial animation, and Google SketchUp compatiability.

                            Happy 3D Modeling
