Three accessories for my “Gemini” Stand project
A few new objects for my Gemini Stand project, part of a series loosely inspired by the idea of Stands in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, combined with the signs of the zodiac.
These three accessories belong to the visual universe I am developing for Gemini. They are not meant to be realistic historical objects; I am trying to mix jewellery, fashion, organic forms, North African/Middle Eastern references and fantasy design.
      1 — The shoe
This one is actually the exception here, because no SketchUp was used — but I’m posting it anyway as it belongs to the same project.
It is a very high sculptural shoe whose heel is formed by an iguana’s head. I wanted the animal anatomy to become part of the construction of the shoe rather than simply being applied as decoration.
The modelling/sculpting was mainly done with Nomad Sculpt on iPad and ZBrush, then rendered in Blender.
For the presentation image, I placed it in an imaginary old luxury boutique, with precious wood, contemporary lighting and coloured dry-ice fog. The environment image was generated with AI from my 3D render.
      2 — The flask / gourd
This is the second accessory I designed for Gemini, and it is connected to the element of water.
The object combines a rather organic, almost creature-like body with leather, scales, metal elements and jewellery-like ornaments. I used SketchUp, Nomad Sculpt and ZBrush for the different parts, depending on whether I needed more precise construction or more organic sculpting.
For this new version I made a few changes to the materials, particularly the relationship between the reddish leather/scaled surfaces and the golden metal parts.
The final render was made in Blender.
For the presentation, the flask is shown partly submerged in the stream of a desert oasis, surrounded by imaginary fish swimming in the water or flying just above it. Again, this mise-en-scène was generated with AI using my render as the starting point.
      3 — The sword
This is a new version of the sword, associated with the element of fire.
The most important change is the blade. Its design is based on the Arabic word for “fire”. I first used AI to stretch and transform the calligraphic word into a long blade-like silhouette, then used that result only as a starting shape and modelled the actual blade in 3D.
So the AI did not create the finished sword: it was used as a design tool to distort the original calligraphy, which I then translated into geometry.
The weapon also includes sculpted organic details in the handle area, including the serpent and jerboa motifs I had developed for the Gemini project.
For this version I wanted the blade to feel less like something that cuts and more like something that consumes. In the presentation images it is therefore surrounded by large rising flames inside a desert cave.
The modelling combines SketchUp, Nomad Sculpt and ZBrush, with the final rendering in Blender. The cave and flame presentation images were generated with AI from the 3D render.
So the workflow for this project is becoming a mixture of:
SketchUp → Nomad Sculpt / ZBrush → Blender → AI for the final environmental presentation images.
I’m mainly using AI here as a way of putting my finished 3D objects into environments that would otherwise take a considerable amount of time to build, while keeping the actual accessory design and modelling as my own 3D work.
