Quite a polarizing topic this is, I had a few of these debates on Face Book recently, have now purged several "friends" who confused my standing up for the innocent women and children dying to being anti-Semitic, tsk.
Yes Pete, it is a very polarizing topic. It seems that certain folks 'play' the so called anti-Semitic card when they don't have an argument. They should change the term to anti-Jew / Israel as Semitic people are a much larger group than just those in Israel. See, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semitic_people

Mike, when you ask,
@mike lucey said:What right has one nation to block world access to another nation?
At this point, what would the alternative be? To allow free access and therefore the suicide bombings that were carried out in the past? Then we would be lamenting the mass deaths of Israelis right now, instead of Palestinians. Lives on both sides are valuable.
Maybe just close the Gaza / Israeli boarder but leave sea access alone.

Perhaps a mediated solution that you speak of similar to what worked in Ireland could work here as well. I really do think the Jews and Arabs could live peacefully together - it has happened before in history and still does in some areas of Israel today, but a broad solution is beyond me.
I also feel that many average Israelis would be willing to give things a try but for the Palestinians they would really need some of their lands back before they would be willing to lay down the rockets.
Coming back to the NI conflict. Here is a historic picture of Queen Elizabeth shaking hands with Martin McGuiness, Deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland and the Sinn FΓ©in Party's Chief Negotiator.Behind Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip is about to shake hands with Martin McGuiness. Prince Philip's uncle whom he was very close to, Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma was assassinated by the IRA on August 27, 1979, in County Sligo!
Standing next to Martin Guiness is Peter Robinson, First Minister of Northern Ireland and Leader of the Democratic Unionist Party.
If these three groups that were involved in brutal atrocities on all sides can do the business of living in peace so can the Israelis and Palestinians with some honest effort and good will all both sides.

Thanks, Massimo.

This buffer zone map which encroaches 3km into the Gaza concentration camp will reduce same by a further 44%
The Israelis only have to create one further buffer zone and they will then have the job practially finished except for a very small pocket around at Khan Younis. Then again they will need someplace to bury the Palestinians that have been annihilated
I notice that an Avaaz campaign has been started yesterday, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny: Expel the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland https://secure.avaaz.org/en/eirepalestine/?bTkNlcb%26amp;v=43083
The target figure is 20,000 and signatures stand at 18,000 as I write. There are some non Irish supporters but the vast majority are Irish. I would not be surprised if the figure goes far beyond 20,000.

WATCH THIS:

Israel is surrounded by this type of animals (BTW I heard no calls to sign anything concerning this. Strange, isn't it? ).
P.S. I guess the religious Jew who grabbed Arabian kid on the picture posted above is one of deviant sect called Neturei Karta (actually more antisemitic then Arabs are; they want Israel to be wiped out). -
I'm gonna ignore the post above this one for the sake of my sanity.
The reason for this post: Mike - if you have access to BBC iplayer there was a really fascinating interview on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme around 8am this morning. It discussed how the lessons learnt in the NI peace process could be applied to the Gaza situation. It was a surprisingly positive piece, and suggested that, although difficult, a solution wasn't impossible. A lot of it tied-in with what you've suggested - have a listen if you're able
cheers,
A

I mean this in the nicest way possible: inform yourself. Read a book. You might pick something up. Like who, say, Theodor Herzl was, or Folke Bernadotte.
Neturei Karta aren't anti-semites. They're anti-zionists. They're's a difference, and it isn't a subtle one either. And yes, they're against Israel. Stating, however, they'd like to see the country 'wiped out' is somewhat hyperbolic, to say the least.
Oh yes, before I forget: you're dangerously close to being outright racist. Not cool.
-
Tom, from my side I'd nicely recommend you not to distort my position. The term 'animals' was directed to the guys in the video I provided.
Of course Neturei Karta aren't anti Semitic (mea culpa). They just anti Zionists- exactly like their kissing partners Ahmadinejad and Mashal.
And.. It's really funny to see your warnings about getting close to 'not cool racist'
Seriously, only 200km! from Gaza ~250000 (sic!) people were killed in Syrian massacre sponsored by Saudi\Bahraini sheikhs; nice guys of ISIS (the same sponsors) slaughter humans in industrial manner RIGHT now. The same dirty oil money feed Hamas and corrupted European politicians.
So let me ask you: How many petitions calling to ban Arabian oil nouveau riches have you signed lately?
Have you signed any petition about 4000 rockets launched from Gaza? -
-
it undoubtedlyproves your unbiased and consistent impartiality in this topic .
-
Ah, of course. Have you signed for peace in Palestine? No? You must be in favour of war and bloodshed then. See what I did there?

How signing the 'petition' calling to hurt the defendingside will help to bring peace to the Middle East? IDF should not stop till the whole carcinoma (Hamas infrastructure) will get cut.

http://thedailybanter.com/2014/07/israel-tries-win-hearts-minds-insulting-brazils-world-cup-team/Ah, Palmor has the art of making enemies and alienating a nation down to a tee.
He could have used a proportional response but the 7-1 Germany routing of Brazil might just be an overkill as those wounds have not healed.

You seem to be under the assumption Hamas is the cause of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. They're not, just like the PLO wasn't. Both Hamas and the PLO are symptoms. Anyways. I'm out.
-
Guys, I've posted an UPDATE to my original post.
-
If this guy Yigal Palmor (Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs) is the best diplomat Israel can produce they are going to dig a very deep hole.
It looks to me that the anti-Semitic shield that Israel has been using for years is slowly crumbling. Governments are finally speaking up and echoing its citizens disgust of the Israeli treatment of Palestinian children. However, I have no doubt that the bloodshed will continue while the USA is backing Israel and many feel that the Zionist lobby is going to keep pressure on Washington to stay the course. A sorta, he who pays the piper thing!
All that other counties can do is to boycott Israeli products and services until their Government enters into meaningful peace talks under the UN. I wont hold my breath. But I will hope
-
It isn't only non Jews that are expressing their disgust at the Israeli Government's actions. Henry Siegman, a former leader of American Jewish Congress has strongly condemned Israelβs war on the Gaza Strip, saying βthe Zionist dream is based on slaughter of innocents.β
