I think the main plugin is your brain.
All other things being just a tool that helps you. Besides the main Sketchup tools (Line, Arc, Intersect ...), I use a this plugins. They are the best for such a task.

You're a certified master for upholstered furniture Alvis. Do you prefer working in non quads over quads?.. do you see advantage of one over the other?

I can not to say that one or the other method is better. Both modeling techniques complement each other. It does not give preference to anyone. I just started earlier use Artisan Plugin. -
