Having seen cheddas nice citroen c6 images my finger tickled to render my favorite car. I found a very nice model here http://animium.com/2011/03/mercedes-benz-sls-amg-3d-model/

actually the model is a 3ds max file, so you have to convert it to use it in sketchup.

so here's my maxwell render πŸ˜„

        Neat !
A couple of things though, the tire is too deep inside the gravel and there should be a trail in the gravel !

Nice details on the rims too !

Just changed the front bumper of a SLK with a bumper shaped like the SLR one,for a client. Came out pretty sick !

...it was lifted to this location by a crane, so there's no trail. also the crane dropped it from 2 meters height, so it sank in... πŸ˜„ 😳

of course your right ely πŸ˜‰

i would love to see your work on the slk bumper...are you planing to post it here?

It was not much of a deal(the models are low quality-not needed high), the model is from the warehouse, even the slr bumper is from the warehouse, but I modified it to fit the old bumper seals, and also modified the hood a bit(with the client's approval). Most likely it will come to life.
If you have nothing against I will upload it here.

very nice modelling as always from you! πŸ‘
sadly i never have the patience to model more complex things like cars...i always want to render it and than forget about modelling while testrendering 😞

Looking good Carloh, did you use the car paint shader ? If not you should it seems matt or is that the style ? The displacement on the floor is killing your render time i expect. It took me a while to understand rendering a shadow channel for under the car and compositing, i think it is the most convincing method using a hdri background. The wheels & dof look excellent. How big is your sketchup file ? These cars can be crippling. I recommend creating a proxy when your done editing.

this is the video i learned the technique from:

thank you very much for your hints and the video link Simon!

actually i did use the car paint shader but somehow the lighting kills the shinyness of the paint, but i thought it was okay because actually there are a lot sls out there with matt foliage on them. i must admit that i didn't use sketchup for this rendering at all. i loaded the .3ds file into maxwell studio and created a simple plane for the ground. the displacement of course increases the rendertime but as there is only the car geometry in this it was okay for me... i just love playing with displacement 😳
i definetly will try the shadow channel solution! πŸ‘
