The Windows 8 GUI sucks ! I hate this Metro theme !
It is like going back to the flat old days of Windows 2.0 ! (circe 1988)
I remember at that time NOT being impressed with Windows at all, and just saying we were better off running our apps in text mode. (This was back when WordPerfect was king of desktop word processor software, and Lotus 123 was king of the spreadsheet apps.)
Then after Window 3.0 came out, a friend showed me MS Excel, MS Word and Micrographics Designer and I was hooked. Windows 3.x had 3D UI features (buttons, scrollbars, borders, etc.
I suppose there are people alive now who had not been born when WIndows 2.0 was in use.
I wonder if Microsoft is just going to bring the userbase all through that same path again ?
That would mean in another say 8 years the current Windows version will be using the XP desktop UI again.
So, like, I've got another 8 years of GUI torture to endure, until I can be happy again...

All is suddenly clear, Win8 is a trimble update.

All opinion, I love it, sure I use a Stardock start button, but damn it's fast, IMO way better than Win 7.

Yes I will agree there.
So far it runs at warp speed on a 4-core Intel notebook with 16 gig of memory.

Isn't the Windows 8 UI a logical consequence from the previous versions?
While a technology (graphic processors) is being learned, improved and polished, its development progress is showcased by mediums that it was not intended for (window effects like glass&shadows and other gimicks) and finally overexaggerated in a playful manner. Once this development is completed, the skills are applied for different purposes but don't play a visible role on the scene:
