      Thanks Oli.

The Provari didn't arrive today. With any luck it'll be tomorrow. It is agonising waiting for it..!

Yep, I'll post a vape porn pic (even though it is much the same rig as Pete's)

Just bought a packet of smokes....hopefully my last purchase of the analogue nasties...!

I'm still interested to know if anyone has tried eLiquids from these guys http://moonmountainvapor.com/

          Woohoo....the Provari has arrived

....batteries must have been nearly fully charged cos it only took 30 minutes for them to charge up

          so, now I'm experimenting...! 😍

            Tips:

-Just increase the voltage til you find a nice level of flavour and vapour production. Normally around 4.2-4.5 volts for me.

-Don't increase voltage too much or you'll fry the liquid and get a bad taste.

-You can set the Provari to disable the LED on the button, it saves battery life albeit a tiny amount.

-Enjoy the experience! Finding a nice E-liquid for you personally is the tricky bit so don't be disheartened if you are not massively keen on the flavours so far.

Let us all know how you get on!!

Have vaped my face off this afternoon Oli.....and I've been able to do it in my office....!!

I recently moved my business into a serviced office building and smoking is prohibited within the boundary of the development.....it's a huge building and smokers need to walk about 50 metres to smoke.....that's ok, but sometimes it's blowing a gale in winter and its bloody cold and p!ssing down with rain.

....vaping in my office is a new freedom.....!

Yep, you are right, somewhere between 4.0 and 4.5V seems to be optimum....I have 5 different juices, and they seem to vary....I probably didn't make very good juice selections either...they are pleasant, but average....they seem to lack some 'kick'.

The next phase is to find some nice juices.....and I have some eNics on order, but they are coming from Europe (I ordered them last week), so I probably can't expect them to arrive for another week or so....at that point, I hope I too can post one of 'last time I smoked an analogue cigarette was xx/xx/xxxx'...!!

If I am to fail at this, I will only blame me.

My gorgeous partner Katie is touring the Mediterranean and will be back in 8 days.....my goal is to be analogue free when she gets home, and surprise her...she absolutely hates me smoking. Don't get me wrong, I am equally doing it as much for me as I am for her.

I am a former top level Hockey player (I played alongside and against Olympic hockey players), 3 weeks ago I was invited to attend a Grand Final match in which a few guys I played against 30 years ago (yes,I am old...!!) in my heyday were playing, after the game we relived (somewhat embellished) memories and I am being lured into playing again....in my current state as a smoker, I would concede that I couldn't possibly do it (I smoked but only very occasionally when I played, but took it up when I retired from playing in 1983)...It's a 'veterans' competition that these guys play in now, and I'd love to get back into condition whereby I can enjoy the spirit of comradery (or is it 'Camaraderie'?) and rivalry again.

Anyhow, in a nutshell, that's my story.....and it is rare that I reveal much and bare my soul in a Forum.

Oli, spotting your topic might well be the best thing I've seen for a long time (strange eh ?....I come into this Forum for 'Architectural hits')

This topic will have it's critics and it's skeptics, and I understand that.

All I can say is thank you....because anything else I say to express my gratitude is meeningless.

              Gareth

Cool, thanks for sharing your story and situation. I understand how smoking really prevents you from doing any hard physical exertion. I used to be really into weight lifting but even the thought of gasping for breath slowly stopped me from enjoying something I loved.

I really do hope you get back into hockey, if not for your health but for fun and engaging with friends again. Smoking can have a profound effect on relationships, you can become distant with certain circles of friends because they don't smoke. Your wife will be over the moon you are quitting, it will be the best coming home present you could give her, apart from the obvious. πŸ˜‰

The freedom aspect of vaping is great isn't it?! Soon though, you will start to see the real health benefits and that's even better than the freedom you achieve. Be prepared for a huge lung capacity, that's all I can say! πŸ˜„

Forget the skeptical views, Gareth, there's only been a couple. Everyone is different and we all have a unique relationship with smoking. I am not trying to force anyone to do anything, I just wanted to share my experience with this wonderful community. I am a very skeptical person myself but after having one vape I was immediately sold.

I had no idea this thread would become so active but even more surprising is the sheer number of you guys who have successfully quit using E-Cigs. I'm over the moon people have taken my advice on board and started to lead a new life. I don't know what I would have done without vaping, apart from being stressed and moody all the time!

I hope you find a good range of liquids, it can really make the biggest difference. If you're already "vaping your face off" then you'll quit very easily with a nice liquid. πŸ˜† πŸ‘

Good luck and please keep us updated!

I forgot to celebrate yesterday! It's been 6 months since my last cigarette.
I'm still using my Ego's, and yes, I want something better, but I'll go strait to Provari, when I'll have the budget. I had the chance (money) to buy cheaper rigs, but no thanks.
How's everyone doing? Gareth, how's vaping for you? You have been so quiet these days.
                  Cheers,

Congratulations mate....and to Pete too....well done both of you.

All is well here, I have couple of smokes each day...am still waiting for my nic liquids to arrive.

There is one problem though.....the Provari didn't fire up this morning. The battery is fully charged, and the resistance reading is ok, and it sounds like it is firing when I press the button.....but there is no vape....!!

I swapped tanks, and the same thing happened....swapped to a third tank and still no vape....!!

Pete, has this happened to your rig ?

I cannot say I have ever had a misfire or problem, only thing I ever had was a loose atomizer head.
I also never wiped the connector unless I spilled juice or made a mess.

Over time my Provari connection gets a little bit gunky and I just use a cotton wool bud to clean it. It may have just been some dust or spilt juice.

I would also clean your battery connections every now and then, just a quick wipe and you're good to go.

Sometimes you just need to screw your atomizer in a bit tighter too. The Provari is seriously reliable, I've dropped mine countless times onto concrete floors and it still works fine. 😳 πŸ˜†

6 months is a big achievement guys; if you've stayed smoke-free this long then I seriously doubt you'll ever smoke again. Well done and keep it up!! πŸ˜„

BUT a packet of smokes is now lasting me 3-4 days

                              ....this is very encouraging already....!!

I have never had a problem getting to sleep.....however, after only a week, the quality of sleep I'm now having is amazing....and I wake up with energy that I am not accustomed to having

Yeah strange how it affects sleep isn't it. When I first started vaping I had never slept so well, partly because I could actually breathe but also because I felt more relaxed. I used to spend the first half hour of bed time trying to clear my chest! Pretty nasty!

Most people cut down like you Gareth then one day they just don't buy any more cigarettes. Take your own time and don't think about "quitting", it's all in the mind. It's more like a transitional period. When your brain thinks it's "quitting" something, it always becomes harder. I didn't have a ceremonial final cigarette, it just felt right to never smoke again. I didn't want to place emphasis on the quitting, but more on the vaping.

Are the liquids you are waiting for premixed? Or is it a DIY kit?

I am really pleased you are adjusting to vaping, especially as you have some of the best kit money can buy! πŸ‘

                                A vaping news update:

I stumbled across the new Kanger Protank 2, it looks more refined than the previous version and less top-heavy. Works on much the same principle as the Vivi Nova or iClear 30; changeable coils and a big tank. I won't be getting one myself but I just thought I'd inform everyone about it.

                                http://www.gotvapes.com/images/protank2.png

E-Cigs are NOT going to be regulated as medicines!!!

*"MEPs rejected calls for e-cigarettes to be subject to the same regulation as nicotine replacement therapies such as patches and gum. The lack of tobacco in e-cigarettes means they are β€œalmost certainly” a much safer way of getting a nicotine hit than smoking cigarettes, according to Cancer Research.

Chris Davies, a Liberal Democrat MEP, said: β€œE-cigs can be a game changer. Hundreds of former smokers have written to tell me that they have helped them give up cigarettes when nothing else worked. They are successful because they are not medicines but products that smokers enjoy using as an alternative to cigarettes.”*

                                  Hiya Oli.

I bought a selection of 4 premixed nic liquids (18mg). They are only 10ml bottles, so perhaps should have ordered more, and in a larger selection of flavours in case I don't like them.

I purchased them before buying the Provari etc because I realised they would take a few weeks to arrive.

I probably should have bought unflavoured nicotine instead, but at that stage I didn't know that was an option and was suffering from 'information overload'....!!

In the meantime, I have bought some juices from the 'Plume Room'. One is 'Banana Pudding' and it is divine....the other is Dutch Apple Crumble and it is equally as good. And another from 'FanceeJuice' called 'Joes Java' which needs a week or so of steeping before I can fully enjoy it.

Also have some fruit eJuices, but I'm not enjoying those as much.

Yeah I would stay away from mixing your own liquids until you are full confident with what you enjoy. It works out significantly cheaper than buying pre-mixed but would be a nightmare for a beginner. For me I enjoy a 50/50 PG/VG mix but you may prefer 70/30 for example.

Glad you are enjoying some of the liquids, it's a great start! πŸ‘

Hello everyone, cheers Oli, I need to ask you a favour. A friend of mine, really want a Russian 91% aty. It's a perfect clone of the kayfun. I told him about your experiences with the Kay and how great it is, and he is most concerned about the set-up and how's the liquid consumption. Can you tell me what wick and wire are the best, and what is the best set-up for it? Or can you direct me to a good review/tutorial for a "perfect" kayfun set-up? Thanks!
This is the "culprit" πŸ˜„ it costs 82.91 Euro, and it seams it delivers just like the original one.

                                        Hey Stefan,

Yeah I saw the Russian 91.....it's terrible that the Kayfun design has been completely copied, but it happens all the time in this industry. But the Kayfun is ALWAYS sold out so looks like the Russian has capitalised on that.

The Russian 91 is a copy of the Kayfun Lite, however, it has adjustable airflow like my Kayfun 3.1. So it's simple to refill although you have to use a screwdriver to open the bottom whereas a Kayfun 3.1 has a refill valve that requires no screwdriver. Basically it's like a Kayfun Lite with adjustable airflow.

                                        OK...

                                        0.16 nichrome wire
                                        2mm Ekowool

You can use other wires and wicks but this is what I was recommended and I love it. Ekowool does not leave a strange taste like other silica or wool wicks. It's also woven, not twisted so does not fall apart.

Here is a setup video from the guys at Cloud9Vaping for the Kayfun 3.1. This would be very similar to the Russian setup.....just skip to the part where they rebuild the coil. It will take a couple of attempts to get right at first but after that it's a 2 minute job.....and very cheap.

Here is an "idiot's guide to Kayfun" that I made for beginners:

                                        http://www.c9v-forum.com/svoemesto-products/the-idiots-guide-to-kayfun/

Yes these rebuildables do use more liquid. That's why I make my own liquid otherwise I'd be spending too much money. I use about 50ml a week.

I've found that devices that do not use much liquid tend to give dry hits and bad taste quite frequently.

I was testing the innokin iclear 30 recently and discovered that it also uses more liquid....bigger atties just use more liquid but they really deliver nice clouds and flavour. But maybe it's just because I enjoy them more and can't stop vaping them lol

Any other questions, just ask. πŸ˜„ Tell your friend not to give up when faced with difficulty, "if it isn't working properly, you are doing it wrong!" πŸ˜†

Thank you Oli,you are a gentleman!
It's heaven and hell with all of these clones, but there is a market for every product. If one have the money, there is no reason not to buy the original.I guess is the temptation to have a "kayfun" at half of the price.
And by the way, did you try 100% cotton? It is a very popular set-up with a micro-coil. They say the micro-coil is "indestructible" πŸ˜„
                                          Cheers!

                                            No worries! πŸ˜„

Nope, I've only ever tried ekowool because it's more inert...I didn't fancy having anything that could burn in my atty. To be honest I've never had any reason to try anything else because it's such a lovely experience.

I've seen people use thinner wire because it heats up quicker and requires a shorter draw, but again, I never attempted this because I'm happy with the 0.16mm nichrome and 2mm ekowool setup. You can extend the life of the coil by just washing everything in hot water; you don't even have to remove the coil, just keep everything connected and dry off with a hair-dryer.

Ultrasonic cleaners are very popular but I just use hot water every month or so.
