Any smokers here? Wanna quit?
-
At the bottom line, I find myself being an idiot because I start smoking in the first place, so I can understand the point of view from a non-smoker.
In the meantime, I got my Davide glassomizer, the mini version, not the one from the images I put in my previous post. Looks great, feels great (is heavy), vapes great, just like the evod. The price is around 15 euro. The best thing about it, is the pyrex glass, and the removable drip tip, so you can use your favourite one . Some spare glass tanks will be available soon, with different sizes and colours. I flood it in the first half hour, because I was pushing through the drip tip some napkin( old habit from the evods, in order to remove condensation). All my evods will have a brake, so I'll test it heavily in the next days. Here are some pictures I have taken this morning:

Yeah the Alan Carr book works for some people, but not for me. I read it, smoked my last cigarette but I cracked a couple of days later. My old driving instructor used it to quit and lent me the book, unfortunately it didn't work for me.
I believe vaping is a great middle-ground to living a smoke-free existence. When you quit traditionally, the slightest amount of stress can push you over the edge to buy some cigarettes. I've had a very stressful 2013; probably the worst year of my life, and would have never quit smoking if it wasn't for vaping. It wouldn't even cross my mind to smoke a cigarette in any circumstance.
At the end of the day; I look and feel healthier, I don't cough any more or lose breath, I have saved a lot of money and I feel completely confident that I will never smoke again.

Looks great Stefan and a nice size! Glad to see you are still living smoke-free! How many months is that now?

I've just realised that the juices I have bought are 100% PG.
Should I have got 50/50 instead ?
100% PG will not give you clouds of vapour. It will provide a strong throat-hit but not a thick cloud of vapour.
Basically; PG provides the throat hit and also takes on flavour very well.
VG provides smooth clouds of vapour but does not take on flavour very well.
A compromise between the two is required in most cases. You will find anything with 70/30 PG/VG ratio will be fine. 50/50 is just my personal preference because I like thick clouds. Therefore I recommend 70/30, 60/40 or 50/50.
Chinese E-liquids are often high PG; they like a strong throat hit. American and European E-liquids have more VG and are therefore smoother and provide better vapour production.
This is all subjective; you may completely enjoy 100% PG but I suggest you try a couple of other ratios BEFORE you attempt to mix your own liquids; this way you will know what you enjoy and won't waste any nicotine etc.
PG and VG are cheap....it's the nicotine that costs the money.

Ooh....I can be very exact with this....I have a banner on a forum I visit, and looks like this right now I think I quit in the same day with Pete, 5 April!
-
Wow stefan that's great....well done

Endorsed.

WOOOHOOOOOO....I received delivery of the first half of my rig today (my atomisers and spares together with a couple of juices)....and beautifully packaged too, which kinda surprised me a little because I was expecting something sort of 'rough and ready' if you know what I mean....!
....hopefully the Provari and it's bits and pieces and some more juices will arrive tomorrow or Thursday
I can't wait to get started
...I'm half way there (nearly)...!!
-
Great news, Gareth. I hope the Provari arrives tomorrow! It really is great quality, even the battery cap thread is just so smooth and slick. Don't forget to take some vape porn photos of your setup! I'm actually quite excited for you! Remember you don't have to quit immediately, you may feel more comfortable weaning yourself off the cigarettes first. Depends on the individual of course but every time you think of smoking just pick up your vape and 10 minutes later you'll forget you even wanted a cigarette.
-
Thanks Oli.
The Provari didn't arrive today. With any luck it'll be tomorrow. It is agonising waiting for it..!
Yep, I'll post a vape porn pic (even though it is much the same rig as Pete's)
Just bought a packet of smokes....hopefully my last purchase of the analogue nasties...!
I'm still interested to know if anyone has tried eLiquids from these guys http://moonmountainvapor.com/
-
The descriptions of the flavours are pretty funny
-
Woohoo....the Provari has arrived
....batteries must have been nearly fully charged cos it only took 30 minutes for them to charge up
so, now I'm experimenting...!
-
Tips:
-Just increase the voltage til you find a nice level of flavour and vapour production. Normally around 4.2-4.5 volts for me.
-Don't increase voltage too much or you'll fry the liquid and get a bad taste.
-You can set the Provari to disable the LED on the button, it saves battery life albeit a tiny amount.
-Enjoy the experience! Finding a nice E-liquid for you personally is the tricky bit so don't be disheartened if you are not massively keen on the flavours so far.
Let us all know how you get on!!

Have vaped my face off this afternoon Oli.....and I've been able to do it in my office....!!
I recently moved my business into a serviced office building and smoking is prohibited within the boundary of the development.....it's a huge building and smokers need to walk about 50 metres to smoke.....that's ok, but sometimes it's blowing a gale in winter and its bloody cold and p!ssing down with rain.
....vaping in my office is a new freedom.....!
Yep, you are right, somewhere between 4.0 and 4.5V seems to be optimum....I have 5 different juices, and they seem to vary....I probably didn't make very good juice selections either...they are pleasant, but average....they seem to lack some 'kick'.
The next phase is to find some nice juices.....and I have some eNics on order, but they are coming from Europe (I ordered them last week), so I probably can't expect them to arrive for another week or so....at that point, I hope I too can post one of 'last time I smoked an analogue cigarette was xx/xx/xxxx'...!!
If I am to fail at this, I will only blame me.
My gorgeous partner Katie is touring the Mediterranean and will be back in 8 days.....my goal is to be analogue free when she gets home, and surprise her...she absolutely hates me smoking. Don't get me wrong, I am equally doing it as much for me as I am for her.
I am a former top level Hockey player (I played alongside and against Olympic hockey players), 3 weeks ago I was invited to attend a Grand Final match in which a few guys I played against 30 years ago (yes,I am old...!!) in my heyday were playing, after the game we relived (somewhat embellished) memories and I am being lured into playing again....in my current state as a smoker, I would concede that I couldn't possibly do it (I smoked but only very occasionally when I played, but took it up when I retired from playing in 1983)...It's a 'veterans' competition that these guys play in now, and I'd love to get back into condition whereby I can enjoy the spirit of comradery (or is it 'Camaraderie'?) and rivalry again.
Anyhow, in a nutshell, that's my story.....and it is rare that I reveal much and bare my soul in a Forum.
Oli, spotting your topic might well be the best thing I've seen for a long time (strange eh ?....I come into this Forum for 'Architectural hits')
This topic will have it's critics and it's skeptics, and I understand that.
All I can say is thank you....because anything else I say to express my gratitude is meeningless.
Gareth

Cool, thanks for sharing your story and situation. I understand how smoking really prevents you from doing any hard physical exertion. I used to be really into weight lifting but even the thought of gasping for breath slowly stopped me from enjoying something I loved.
I really do hope you get back into hockey, if not for your health but for fun and engaging with friends again. Smoking can have a profound effect on relationships, you can become distant with certain circles of friends because they don't smoke. Your wife will be over the moon you are quitting, it will be the best coming home present you could give her, apart from the obvious.
The freedom aspect of vaping is great isn't it?! Soon though, you will start to see the real health benefits and that's even better than the freedom you achieve. Be prepared for a huge lung capacity, that's all I can say!
Forget the skeptical views, Gareth, there's only been a couple. Everyone is different and we all have a unique relationship with smoking. I am not trying to force anyone to do anything, I just wanted to share my experience with this wonderful community. I am a very skeptical person myself but after having one vape I was immediately sold.
I had no idea this thread would become so active but even more surprising is the sheer number of you guys who have successfully quit using E-Cigs. I'm over the moon people have taken my advice on board and started to lead a new life. I don't know what I would have done without vaping, apart from being stressed and moody all the time!
I hope you find a good range of liquids, it can really make the biggest difference. If you're already "vaping your face off" then you'll quit very easily with a nice liquid.
Good luck and please keep us updated!

I forgot to celebrate yesterday! It's been 6 months since my last cigarette.
I'm still using my Ego's, and yes, I want something better, but I'll go strait to Provari, when I'll have the budget. I had the chance (money) to buy cheaper rigs, but no thanks.
How's everyone doing? Gareth, how's vaping for you? You have been so quiet these days.
Cheers,
Stefan

StefanCongratulations mate....and to Pete too....well done both of you.
All is well here, I have couple of smokes each day...am still waiting for my nic liquids to arrive.
There is one problem though.....the Provari didn't fire up this morning. The battery is fully charged, and the resistance reading is ok, and it sounds like it is firing when I press the button.....but there is no vape....!!
I swapped tanks, and the same thing happened....swapped to a third tank and still no vape....!!
Pete, has this happened to your rig ?
-
problem solved....wiped the connection on the Provari and the tank and all is good
i didn't realise i'd have to do that so soon..!
-
I cannot say I have ever had a misfire or problem, only thing I ever had was a loose atomizer head.
I also never wiped the connector unless I spilled juice or made a mess. -

Over time my Provari connection gets a little bit gunky and I just use a cotton wool bud to clean it. It may have just been some dust or spilt juice.
I would also clean your battery connections every now and then, just a quick wipe and you're good to go.
Sometimes you just need to screw your atomizer in a bit tighter too. The Provari is seriously reliable, I've dropped mine countless times onto concrete floors and it still works fine.
6 months is a big achievement guys; if you've stayed smoke-free this long then I seriously doubt you'll ever smoke again. Well done and keep it up!!
