I'm designing this Solar Patio Cover for a local San Diego area customer, might even get to build this one πŸ™‚
I design the structure part and let my client arrange for all the electrical and solar parts.

this is still a WIP and some elements have already changed, for instance we'll use aluminum solar panel tracks instead of the horizontal 2x4 purlins I show, and I'm still trying to find out more about the inverters, and how to hide them from below!

Here are some other solar designs I've been working on,

it's fun designing them but much nicer getting to build them πŸ™‚

Oh thanks... But I meant the hole thing. Could be used as a carport or patio... people could choose whatever roof they wanted. I'll take the solar panel though. Thanks.

Oh that's a good idea Kris. It's a pretty generic solar panel texture, but what makes this component special is that it casts shade πŸ™‚

Way back when Alan Fraser made me an invisible shade element to mimic the shade falling off of horizontal bamboo I used to use for my Japanese style shade structures. It's inside the panel. Forget how he made it, was it a transparent gif image, or png ? It's a series of these transparent elements that actually casts the shade.

            thanks again Alan πŸ™‚

              some redesign going on

Hhmmm, I find out from my customer that the panels are actually mounted on aluminum rails, so now the structure has changed

this is looking pretty sleek for a patio cover, like the way this is heading πŸ™‚

I am building one slightly bigger here in Sacramento And it's up at 14' minimum clearance. The guy bought one of those Tesla cars and this is to charge his car!!!!!

That's pretty cool, is he parking and charging under his car port!

What do you mean by 14' clearance? Around here max height a garden structure / patio cover can be is 12' high.

did you design it first? I'd very much like to see what you're building πŸ™‚

Yeah Futurepast, lets see it. Is it visible publicly - could I drive by and see it when its done? I'd like to see it. It sounds pretty cool.

Lately you've been tan, suspicious for the winter.
