I like it! Don't like the white walls. Stucco???
Warm it up! -
Looks great mate, agree on the white walls, add some advertising, or even warm wood.

Wow. NICE. Especially for a 10 min run. Enjoy the pub!

Thanks guys
Doh! Didn't think of the walls. It looked so much warmer with pathtracing on, I should have changed it when I switched to direct lighting! Hopefully I'll get time to revisit it soon...that's if I'm not too busy visiting the real thing -
One other observation, a clock in a pub? I have never seen that in a pub before or a casino for that matter.
-
Octane is blazing fast, but I got bored trying to understand it. Did you follow any tutorials?
-
Solo - Haha yeah, it will be a sports bar/steakhouse, which is also why it looks MUCH less traditional than all of the other pubs by me. I just said pub because the section I made was basically just that
Ecuadorian - Yep it's fast, I think its mainly thought of as fast because of the direct lighting mode. Its the fast one thats activated as default, so it's what most people judge the speed by. However it's not path tracing and is really rubbish compared! Then again this waynI have the 2 options of slow really nice rendering or very fast rendering that IMO has the best ease of use/speed/quality ratio of any renderer Ive tried.
As for understanding it, I didnt really try, luckily I clicked with it right away. I never use the node interface though! Although its a main feature, you can do everything the same through basic and familiar menus. Once you got the hang of editing the materials there is hardly anything left to learn. Give the demo another try and mess around with the hallway sample scene!

Demo? I bought a license.
I even used it for some production work, but finally found it too frustrating. What exporter do you use from SU?
As you say, Path Tracing is not as fast as the default DL+AO... Also, it's prone to fireflies. Still, I found Octane's PT to be way faster than the one found in other software. MLT was supposed to remedy the fireflies, but it hasn't been released yet, right?

A wonderful render!
Octane is an excellent render engine, though most of the magic comes from your talent! -
That looks great, Michael. A few comments:
- Looks like a lot of hard surfaces; you might have problems with noise.
- In future, for added realism, pay attention to the direction of the wood grain on your furniture and millwork. It will typically run parallel to the long dimension of a component of wood.
Clocks are omitted from restaurants, probably, so people cannot notice how long it takes for their food to arrive.
-
Ecuadorian, sorry I didn't realise! MLT is in fact out, and is more prone to fireflies than DL but definitely better than PT.
Cheers for the tips Daniel. Can't believe I did that with the wood thinking about it now haha, no eye for detail!
I never thought about the clocks thing before. Maybe I'll tell him to put slow clocks up..
My mind was blown when I found out bar snacks were to make you thirsty, and now this -
Or, perhaps, in a Pub, the idea is you forget the time and buy another round!
