Internet Blackout to oppose SOPA

Turncoats.

Looks like the blackout effort was somewhat effective: http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/20/us-usa-congress-internet-idUSTRE80J10X20120120
BTW, Gaieus, I don't understand your use of the word "turncoats". Wasn't the effort supposed to create and increase Congressional support for stopping PIPA and SOPA? If members of Congress switched from supporting to opposing, then the effort was successful. The word "turncoat" is usually used with a derogatory connotation ...
What scares me more are people like Anonymous, who act unilaterally, outside the law because they don't agree with actions like that against Megaupload.com. Whether the action was right or wrong, it's up to the courts to determine and not some anarchist hacker group.
Cheers.

I don't think Gaieus was being serious.

Well, indeed I was not serious (too much) but if you think about it, those numbers only show one thing: those congressmen have the only goal: to remain "popular" and get re-elected. In other words; they did not support the bills because they were ascertained by their righteousness and usefulness but because at that time it seemed to be the better idea. Do you think that now they reconsidered and read/watched some of the reasoning that's against those bills? No way. They hired popularity polling companies, asked their advisors and such. They simply got frightened.
Turncoats. If our better being is up to turncoats, be it.

@ Gaieus
+1
This mechanism turned democracy, real democracy, to an utopia.
Good luck to all of us. Or better, let's start fighting for a better world. Let's become once again, free minded, individuals. -

Sometimes those Indie movies are better than the big blockbuster stuff, take this for example:

Absolutely amazing.
Also available on Netflix: http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/The_Man_from_Earth/70076096?trkid=2361637&fcld=true
Saw this film some years ago....but quite interesting Pete taking that you are atheist.

Well, when we are at it... Google does not sell educational SU licenses outside the US (and maybe Canada). True that some "international" (as "non-US" is generally called ) resellers do but there are countries where there are no resellers.
Now these students (usually way poorer than any US student) have to buy the full version - or use pirated versions if they cannot afford...
Not completely true. You can buy edu license in UK.... It is yearly one which goes against your full one after you complete studies. On the end you pay just difference for a full license.

Not really, I don't watch movies based on my non beliefs but rather for the entertainment value, and this was very entertaining. The conversation was thought provoking and rather cleverly executed.

I suppose so. I did found the story kind of predictable ....
